I’ve been working on bringing a new one along. Moon is two and in his second season now. I’ve had a few things slowing down some of what I had planned for him this year but have still found as many opportunities as I can to get him on a variety of wild birds. Today is one of those days. Moon is coming along and I like him. The little rascal is one of those pups with a lot of personality. Along with showing me some talent, he is developing into a decent little wild bird dog. I like a dog with an off switch. Some of you fellow dog men would probably disagree with it but on the way to the field, I oftentimes have the dog ride in the cab of the truck to help develop that off switch. I like to listen to music while I’m on the road headed to go hunt. Seems to help me with my off switch. When this one came on, Moon heard his name. He got amped up! It was an omen of what was to follow. Moon and me were exploring a new place for the first time. We had a nice steady breeze out of the north west with high humidity and temperatures in the low 50’s. Just about perfect when I turned him out. Moon was running the cover right and pinned three birds pretty quick on the first drop. He had the birds in heavy cover. Those that hunt woodcock know that heavy cover hunting woodcock is on a different scale than most upland hunting and can be problematic to your wing shooting. I was fortunate enough to knock the first three down for him. Moon hunted them dead and delivered his birds to hand. Before we got started good, we were back at the truck in 45 minutes with our 3 bird limit. I guess I’m getting too old to stay up till midnight and watch the ball drop but what a splendid way to kick off a new year! ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/01/full-62286-409763-21bd1646_17f5_419d_94f7_c7a2c983233e.jpeg)

Great name and pretty pooch
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Y’all are too kind. We are nothing special. Just putting a few pictures up of keeping a young dogs nose in the bushes and trying to make it a bird dog. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2024/01/full-62286-409901-ac5ed980_ab8e_4cb2_b539_dbe529e61b27.jpeg)
