Haywire (great name btw). Since you are new to the cartridge I would suggest you cut your teeth on something less exotic and more tried and true. Once you are settled in then try what you like. However... You'll have a very tough time beating the 125gr TNT for varmints and general shooting. This TNT bullet does nothing wrong and is a good place to start... or even finish.
"Group think" is not thinking. It is the lack of independent thought. It is a cancer of the mind.

Hey Bill, no real reason other than I like to mess around with combinations that other folks don't generally. Nobody's tried it? Sign me up. It might not work out at all, but my curiosity will be satisfied. Sam, yep, got the 130HC and the FTX there as the tried and true to play around with. I'm planning on picking up some clear ballistics gel and a chronograph of some kind to put some visuals and numbers to my loads.

They are cheap, accurate, and have spectacular terminal results...but when I REALLY want to blow something up I use the FTX 135 which when it hits something you would swear it was full of tannerite. For an all around bullet I go with the Speer 2022 150gr SPBT which is also cheap, the most accurate bullet I've tested yet, and can be used on everything from a prairie dog to an elk...and with it's high BC the way I'm sighted in I hold dead on and anything from 30yd to 170yd will be within an inch of point of aim.

Bill, I've been wondering... the bonded bullet you have on the site.. Is that a commercially available bullet that you had adjusted for the Ham'r like the HHC or the FTX, or is that a completely new design? What's its intended purpose?
thanks

thanks It's a bullet I co-developed with Speer and is a WC exclusive. It uses the Fusion mfg technology.

I know it is in this thread somewhere, but don't want to dig through 250 pages to find it. On the Speer 130 Hot Core, there are 2 versions, the original Speer, and the Wilson 300 HAMR version (I have some of both). Ii know on the Wilson version the crimp groove has been moved to the rear a bit. Besides that, are there any other changes to that bullet from one version to the other?

Only the nose profile, the original is designed for the .30-30 and is a flat nose, the HHC is a round nose for potentially better feeding in an AR. I never noticed any appreciable difference in accuracy or terminal performance between the two. It is nice to be able to crimp into the crimp groove on the HHC though.

OK Thanks for the info Bill. I was pretty sure that was the case but thought I would check. Like you said, nice to be able to crimp in the groove.
I have been shooting the 125 TNT, but my gun really likes the 130 Hot Core too. Actually shoots it better than the 125 TNT. I'm thinking the 130 is going to give better terminal performance as well. I will be checking that out here real soon.

Or you could just do like DJ and shoot em with a lot of TNTs (-:

Haywire, I will try to if I can remember to take a pic of them.
Nearly every time we shoot pigs there are at least 1-2 in that 180-210 bracket. Around 225 lbs is the top of the "fairly common" category. I killed 6 last year that ranged from from 235-315 lbs. For sure a few of those could have used more bullet than the 125 TNT.

Here are some HAMRed pigs from a few weeks ago we happened to drive up on while calling coyotes. Most of these were smaller, 80-140 or so. The big one might have gone 175, IDK. We didn't think anything was worth weighing, we just drug them off and kept chasing coyotes.

that's a good looking drag setup... pulls with the grain of the fur and gets their head off the ground. what are you attaching to, their jaw?

The product is the hitch drag by Pocket Drag brand. I got mine from North Texas Piggin, good company to do business with. They make several models all very well built. Pocket Drag, Hands Free Drag, Big Boy Drag, and then the Hitch Drag. I have a hitch drag I keep in the truck toolbox for multiple pigs (it has 6 staggered length loops on it), and then a 2 loop pocket drag I keep folded up in my battle belt for coyotes. Even the little pocket drag is plenty stout for pigs. Several times I have put 2, 200+lb pigs on it at the same time and drug them 1/2 mile with the loop over my hitch. When dragging I always just put the loop behind their teeth, top jaw. Like mentioned, it keeps the head up and they drag very streamlined that way. I don't think I have ever had one come off once it was cinched up tight. I use the pocket drag all the time to hook pigs to my hoist to lift them into the truck. One loop around a front leg, one loop around a back leg. It has lifted dozens of 200+ lb pigs clean off the ground, plus at least a half dozen that were over 250. One that was 314. Kind of funny, if you go to this link and click on the Hitch Drag, the photo he uses with it is my picture. I had posted up in the North Texas Piggin FB group one day, he saw it, and asked if he could use my pic. I said sure. EDIT: So i just went to that link for the Yawt Yawt, and that is the exact product. In fact, that is my picture he is using, lol. That was 2-3 years ago at my BIL's place 15 miles from my house. Solo hunt that night all 5 were killed by me. https://gearthehunt.com/shop/ols/products/the-pocket-drag/v/THE-PCK-DRG-HTC-DRG

Had to use the pocket drag to lift a couple last night. You can see how I use it there. Cable loops around feet, then I hook the scale through the steel D-ring the loops attach to so that I get extra lifting height. Boar was 257.4lb, sow was 242.4 lb. I grab them by both back feet for a nice picture but it is hard to get them in the truck that way. Just to weigh and load it is much easier to "sling" them by grabbing a front and opposite back foot. Makes for crappy pictures though. Boar took a 130 Hot Core in the neck/shoulder junction and went straight to the ground. Bullet performed well IMO. Distance was 115 yards. Moon was very bright last night out in the open field, lots of pigs, and we could not get closer to the big ones. Bright enough you could see pigs with the naked eye at 80-90 yards. I am going to try and dig the bullet out this morning and check it out since that will be a perfect test of terminal performance. Hopefully I can find it.
