Newly released, the Ruger American Gen II looks like a winner.

Link to the Ruger American Gen II Rifle

Comes in Standard with a 20-inch barrel and Ranch with a 16-inch barrel. Sure offers a lot with spiral fluted barrel, threaded, AICS magazines, adjustable stock, gray cerakote, and integrated bedding system. Weighing in at 6.5 pounds, seems like it would make a great hunting rig.

With an MSRP of $729, it will give Tikka and other rifle makers a run for their money. I've found the Ruger American action to be similar to a Tikka, and all I've shot are accurate. However, the magazine/feeding issues kept me from purchasing one of the rifles. I'm interested to see if the AICS magazine fixes the feeding issues.

I'm excited to see this from Ruger as it pushes companies like Tikka to offer more features at competitive price points. It also shows Ruger as a company is listening to their customers.

Time will tell. This business is all about earning a reputation for accuracy. I promote Tikka because of how well the first one I bought (a CTR) shot and continued to perform on all points for several years before I bought the next two.

It looks like this one is targeting the customer that will be looking at the CTR. The price point will get a few takers, then it will be up to not only published reviews but how hunters like myself talk it up. I'm one hunter and I'm responsible for about a dozen Tikka sales that I know of. And they told a few friends, and they told a few friends.........

Good luck to Ruger, competition is always a good thing.

Think I will be ordering one for the Wife, length of pull adjustable is a big thing for her. Looks like a Ranch rifle in 6.5 Grendel will be in the safe when it comes available.

I think the unware shopper already buys ruger because of the name. Price point is what people are going to see. Ruger is much better at marketing as they always bring new to the table.

I see they are chambering it in 6 ARC and 6.5 Grendel! That would be nice!

I'm not going to spend a lot on any rifle that comes with a plastic trigger guard and magazine.

Wonder if these gen II actions will fit in a gen I stock/chassis.

I'd say in order to be a Tikka killer, these Americans need to not have this "zipping" sound as you stroke the bolt.

Well, that’s good, Dan, cause they’re not asking for a lot of money.

Time will tell. I wouldn't bet any money on it. My two Ruger Americans shot great, but the rotary magazines were miserable failures. Seems that problem wasn't just isolated to me.

Action and feeding will not be as good as a Tikka but overall the Ruger Americans have been pretty solid accuracy wise.

It'd be nice to see a bigger palm swell/more upright grip.

Ruger builds a good rifle. I've shot several over the last few years. All have shot very, very tight.

Adjusting the trigger was a chore to get to the screw.

The bolt needs one more clean-up pass in the lathe.

I am not betting against this rifle. But I doubt it is going to be a Tikka killer.

wont be a tikka killer until they build an action to be high enough quality that people would build off off it

I always wanted a Ruger ranch .300 BLK to have a super quiet toy, but the action and stock left so much to be desired. Like savage they perform accuracy wise but come in awfully terrible packages. If this new Ruger II comes in below $650 and the stock isn’t horrible I see it being a huge seller.

Besides the proven and consistent accuracy, lightweight is another good thing about the Tikka. The Rugers tend to be heavier.

Gawd almighty that thing is ugly. Kicked up in the back like a constipated coyote. Pretty bold claim as a Tikka "Killer".. Not sure a cheap gun like this is "killing" anything. May add some competition to the market, which isn't a bad thing.

All I see

Good luck with that! The last Ruger American I bought was complete trash. Actually had to return it to Ruger. That gun never should have left the factory, some of the sheitiest machining I've ever seen. Zero QA/QC on it apparently.

They cut it into pieces , had me sign forms to have it destroyed and sent me another one.

I sold the new one without ever taking it out of the box

Great question.

I'd say in order to be a Tikka killer, these Americans need to not have this "zipping" sound as you stroke the bolt.

I think a silky smooth action is a nice thing but almost cosmetic to me. I have a Howa mini that has that zipper sound and I don't care. I (usually the kids) pull the bolt and empty brass shoots out. Push the bolt and a round goes in. Function and accuracy trump all else, for me. Average Joe is less concerned about the sound and more concerned about the price, it seems Ruger has accommodated Joe. Doubt I'll buy one but I'm rooting for Ruger. I like things made in my home country.

If that were true the Ruger American would have kicked Tikka's asss the first time, and it failed miserably. Bergara tried too.....same fate, as did Savage. Tikka's are more popular than ever for good reason.
