What is the latest date of the year you have taken a wall hanger/shooter? I try to hunt until end of the season but it obviously gets busy around the holidays with family. I haven’t gone since Dec 2, but my cameras haven’t shown much to get me excited enough back out there.

I am going to try and take a doe with my bow or a mature Buck if I see one, but all my bigger bucks have been shot in Nov.

Have you guys ever shot a big Buck at the end of season?

Yes, I have taken big bucks late in the year. One in late December, and one in early Jan. They are done with the rut and really keyed in on food plots and protein that time of year.

I think it was 3 years ago very close to the end of season. I shot a very nice 8 pointer that had not been seen by any of our hunters that year. He was traveling with another buck; I don't know what the second buck was like because the one i shot had all my attention.

I’ve killed a lot of mature bucks late and several on the last day of season.

But, it’s dependent on the area. Some places are definitely better in November than late December or January.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Same here. Look forward to the late Muzzleloader season.

Bucks are hungry and trying to put some weight back on after the rigors of the rut.

I've taken some pretty nice 'survivors' that time of hunting season.

Absolutely NO hunting pressure from surrounding properties.

In my area.....by Thanksgiving, most folks have either tagged out or given up. The 'lull' between then and the first part of January makes the bucks much less wary.

Have taken bucks into January. Seen plenty of shooters in February but by then we usually have the bucks that we want on the ground and are trying to fill any last doe tags

I am hoping one I had on camera in Sept (and someone else thinks they saw early Nov) shows back up. But he hasn't been on camera at all.

Shot my biggest buck on the last day of that season. Hunted him hard all year, and caught him at last light in the wheat field trying to recover from the rut.

January 24 in south Texas.
We rarely hunt that late but if target deer that NEED to go are still walking, we’re hunting.

Jan 6 1993. Likely my most important (to me) kill.
There was another week in season but this was my last day I could hunt.
Never give up, never ever give up.

New Year’s Eve a few years ago, hunted hard all year and had a doe and a cull in the freezer and a mature buck showed up right at sunset that I had never seen. Taught me to never give up!

I have shot good bucks in the Pineywoods on Dec 5th, Dec 31, and Jan 4. As said above, they get on a good feeding pattern late in the season and become predictable. A strong front with rain will get them on their feet in daylight, specifically when it rains all night!
