I have never had a pass thru with the 150grn coreloks in deer. shoulder shot DRT. the reason is they expand well and leave all their energy in the deer. shot a 64# wolf it passed thru leaving a huge hole on the exit.

In South Texas, shot no less than 40-50 bucks over the years with .30-.06, 150gr Core-Lokt. Some good pass through, some no pass thru but almost always great blood trails and dead deer within 75 yards most times. Lost only 1 buck down there in 40+ years of hunting and probably due to the shooter, me and not the gun or bullet. I'd shoot .30-.06 Core-Lokt 150gr., 7 days a week all year....

Have never lost a hog or javelina shooting it during all those years.

Since we are talking about the 30/06. I need to post my 77 year old wife's latest kill. She shoots 180 grain core-lokt and she has
taken 25 shots and has 25 animals on the ground. This was last week and it is her first Arkansas buck on a little
100 acre farm we bought 2 years ago. 205 yards and it ran 25.

Mrs. T getting it done!! Awesome post and picture. You have a very cool wife sir. That is not a mild shock to the shoulder as that's the same bullet weight and caliber I often hunt with.

First deer I shot with my 6.5 Creedmoor was a cull 6 that ran over 100 yards with a double lung shot and didn't have a drop of blood until the final 20 yards or so.

The next morning I shot a 10 pt that expired 30 yards from where I shot him. There was a Blood Trail Ray Charles could have followed from the point of impact to where he expired.

Both shots were clean pass throughs. You could have hung the carcasses side by side and the entries and exits were almost in the exact same place.

Everyone knows that a 6.5 Creedmoor doesn't produce a blood trail. Hell, it rarely even produces a dead deer! You got luck on the second one. peep

Haha!

The first deer was the only deer out of about 20 between me and the kids that made it more than 30 yards.

All were double lung shots except 1 pulled liver shot and 1 stray shoulder shot. Even the liver shot deer only made it about 30 yards. So we are 100% on recoveries, definitely not an adequate round……..

My hunting buddy has had two weird experiences with his 270 in the past month. Both were 50-75 yard broadside shots at whitetail bucks. In the first instance the deer was knocked to the ground before getting up and bolting...very little blood with the deer never recovered. Second instance was yesterday, the deer knocked to the ground got up and they found it five or so hours later 300 yards away (bullet hit the top of the shoulder and exited the other side). My friend took one of the shot; his nephew took the second shot yesterday with the same rifle and cartridge. When I go out there this weekend I'm going to take a look at the ammunition and see what he's using. Interesting thing is the prior year he took a large 150 lb hog and a very sizable mature Whitetail with the same rifle and cartridge and they didn't not move more than 10 yards each.

My personal deer cartridges which I handload are 30.06, .35 Rem. 45-70 and .44 Mag. Have taken 4-5 deer these past few years with the 35 and 45-70 and have not experienced any runners. Don't think I ever have with any of these cartridges.

Sorry at that short range with a .270 and happening twice, I'll need to call that some poor shooting. He pulled or pushed those shots, he needs more range time in all likelihood, focus on his breathing, trigger pull anticipation. Truth is painful sometimes...

She does have a good size bruise on her shoulder after every kill. But still smiles.

Mr T I'm sure you thought of this but perhaps she could put on one of those recoil absorption pads on her shoulder when she's hunting. I'm 6'3 215 and use one of those at the range when I'm shooting my 06 and 4570 testing hand loads or whatever. Makes the world of difference.

DQ there is no doubt range time would have helped prevent. The second deer/shooter was his first deer ever. So definitely not around rifles.

not all deer bleed.

Stepdad shot a buck opening morning of rifle season with a .300 win mag with 150 grain core lokts. Deer didn't drop so he assumed he missed. 10 min later shot another buck and wounded it. Went back to where the first one was standing and its dead 30 yards inside the treeline.

when i asked him why didn't he go look all he said was "well, I'm shooting a 300 mag.....
