I'm thinking about building a new blind on the dam of my farm pond. I've been hunting out of 14' utility trailer that was turned into a blind. This blind sits on the bank of the shallow end of the pond and with water level fluctuations it constantly needs to be shifted around to stay near the waters edge. So I want to get rid of it and build a permanent blind on the dam underneath a bunch of black willow trees where it will have some natural camouflage and be near the center of pond.

So with that in mind I need some inspiration and ideas for a new blind. If yall have blinds you built please post pictures in this thread.

Current blind set up. The yellow arrow is where I’d like to build a new one.

Here's one we built on an old hay trailer, so we can move it around newly constructed wetlands until we determined exactly where we wanted to build the permanent blinds.

Out with the old…..

I've got the plans to one of the permanent ones we've built. I'll post them when I find them, but in the meantime here's some pictures from the inside:

We have this one built onto our levy on the Southside for hunting South winds.

Our big one......

This is our main blind we hunt. Covers every wind out of the North.

Our other one we move around......(currently used as a deer blind)

Its obviously brushed in now.

We will prolly replace our South blind with a larger built in (like Barneys above) after this season.

Some of you may notice our big blind. It was JJ Kents before he passed away. Theres been ALOT of ducks killed out of that blind.

Here is an old thread of a blind I built in 2008 following the "Dr Duck" design, back when I had a duck lease. I pretty much followed it exactly, but I scrapped the flapping shooting doors, and just had shooing holes..I did have sliding doors to cover the shooting holes to keep the rain out when I was gone..What I like about this design was the low profile, when you stand up to shot, you stand up and out the blind, and can shoot behind it. I made it easy to break down and move it, which I did 4 times.

https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1500619/Duck_Dr_Duck_Permanent_Blind_H

This low profile blind design was originally to go on a boat, and I always wanted to float it, with a catwalk all the way around it, a floating island. Move it anywhere..

If it was JJ's I've probably killed some ducks out of it. RIP.

Hey Huck, I hunt a similar looking pond with the dam on the north. When we get a north wind, we just hunker down in the brush and they have no idea we're there. They'll land in the dekes 5 to 10 yards away. Maybe you don't need a blind there at all.

For the spots where you don't have cover and need to be mobile, have you considered using a panel or A frame? I don't know why, but ducks don't seem to flare off of them at all. I have a couple of panels I setup like an A frame now. I move them from pond to pond and haul them in the boat, too. They're light weight and setup in seconds.

Yesterday from the boat on a public spot.

Almost too much cover on that dam. I would think about a floating blind on a dock off the dam, under the trees, with a cat walk to it from the dam. That would get you closer to where ducks want to land and make for a shorter/easier shot.

That is really the perfect blind for killing ducks and maintaining. No matter which way the wind is blowing, you can kill’m with that bind. Something like that right in the middle of a big pond would ideal, just normally in most ponds it is too deep.

On my duck lease I used hunt on the dam, I originally had the big blind I posted on the dam, then I moved it. But I still hunted the dam many time, just laying on the dam as Larry says…, but also built another blind on that dam with just cut limbs. I can post some pics later of it. This video below I shot on my lease laying on that dam, I called this pond the Gray Duck honey hole, that is 95% of ducks I shot on it. This video I shot was after I limited, I just sat on the dam laying down, and watched them drop in all morning and drank my coffee, very cool way to spend the morning with a nice cold north wind.

I saw these blinds featured in Sitka ducktales. It was said that the owners drink their Starbucks with their pinky sticking out while poaching their eggs.

It shoud be illegal to poach eggs just like ducks.

My buddies got a few Concealed Comfort pit blinds and a few nTXduckblinds, but I can say the pits make a HUGE difference in covering up, staying dry, and most importantly dry.

As suggested I've been hunting the dam. Just sitting on a butt pad on the ground. And like Guy mentioned I thought about turning an old pontoon boat into a floating dock/blind.

The dam provides the best shot oppurtunities for any kind of wind, it faces west but the ducks tend to land towards the middle of the pond no matter where the wind is. Since its facing west it sets up a nice crossing type shot where they light towards the middle facing north or south. From the middle of the dam you can get a decent shot on about 75-80% of the pond.

The reason for the blind is purely comfort and to help hide movement if we have more than a couple people hunting together. The dam is sloped so it puts you sitting on a 45 degree angle which after awhile gets uncomfortable. So at a minimum I want a big level bench to sit on.

Here you go…when I had my big blind I posted above on the dam, I did it like this. Ideally, you can have cinder blocks under water and blind base just above the water, but you maybe forced to move it up the slop of the dam and out of the water. You could also drives posts instead of using cinder blocks.

[Linked Image]

Making that pontoon boat a blind is another option, I thought about doing the same thing.
