Please keep posting your videos. They are very educational. So important to understand how those deer move before the arrow reaches them. Interesting on this one cause he didn’t drop much at all. I know they dont always, but could it be cause his head was turned the other way and his ears cupped away?

I believe that is part of the reason (head turned and listening in the other direction). I also believe that the more mature deer, have slower reaction times and are not as worried about getting bullied. Also, I believe that when a deer has their head down vs up when the shot is taken, the head down deer will drop faster and further. Likely because they can use the lifting of the head simultaneous with the bending of the front legs to accelerate their drop, vs only gravity with the raised. I'll post a doe shot next Monday that I took this weekend and her head was down when I shot, and she dropped a good five inches before the arrow got to her at 20 yards.

I understand and agree with the head up vs down theory but hadn’t thought about the head turn. Of course you may have to wait a long time to get the head turn, so there’s that….

Yeah, so let's see. As a bow hunter, I need to wait until the deer is at 20 yds, quartering away, leg forward, head up and turned away, no other deer around, and in camera frame. Will take patience!

I don’t bow hunt so I really never thought about it, but after a closer look, the deer on the left had his head down and forced his body much lower than the deer you shot. Good point and nice video!

I liked the far right buck. Is he still standing there? Not much reaction at all to all the commotion.

Yep, that happens quite often. One (usually buck) sees all the other deer haul [censored] and just stands there looking as if "what the hell y'all running from?". And in this particular video, that one buck still standing there is a buck we call "Vegas". A 3.5 year old 11 point with split brow tines. He has a pass for at least another three years.

I just don't share the misses! it happens....
