I once had a tripod that was about 15 feet from a fence. I put it there because there was a washout that deer used to scoot under the fence rather than having to jump over it. I always had my back to the fence and only fired at deer in front of me. The area on the other side of the fence was so thick with brush it would make a rabbit cry.

Referring to my water tubs...why mine works and ponds maybe not so much. Fresh clean water I think is what gives me a lot of deer traffic. Friend of mine put out water like I did and he got as much traffic and he is within a few yards of a creek. My water is in a pen and my customers are mostly deer but raccoons, possums, turkey, wasps, bees, squirrels, and birds also use it. I recommend pure fresh water as the difference and I would think you might see a difference right away. However, I give you no guaranties..lol
By the way...I have never seen a buzzard use my water.lol

I should add the experience showed me just how lazy deer can be. Rather than jumping over a barbed wire fence, deer will often choose to scoot under one if given the opportunity. And this includes older bucks with headgear that one would think makes it more difficult.

My land, in some places, isn’t over 250 to 300 yards wide but over a mile long. I have to be careful. My shooting range targets are about 50 ft. from the fence line. However it is backed by stacked crossties about 8 ft tall. Behind those is a huge dirt pile. 100 yard range with stations at 25, 50, and 100 yards. No houses within a mile and neighbors know about it.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Closest right now is on a hill about 80-100 yds from fence line to the west but I hunt parallel to the fence line into my property.

My hunting for the last several years has been all backcountry. Neighbor isn't a thing.

One of our neighbors didn't know he bordered our lease for years. Until I posted a picture on here of his new feeder on our fence. Like threw corn over the fence. He moved it when his brother saw the picture on here. We still text and he moved it 100 yards inside. Closest stand is 1/2 mile from there though. We hide all out stuff and have nothing close or visible to anyone else. Looking at Google i see a feeder 1/3 mile away from a stand but can't see or hear them no matter where you are.

I hunt very close to the fence line, but don't shoot over it. It just turns out that's the best place on the property. Lots of deer come from the property I hunt and go toward the fenceline, lots come down the fenceline from either direction and on both sides of the fence. The other end of the property might also be good, but to get there I would have to go by the landowner's house, and her dogs would alert to me and come find me. And nobody hunts the neighboring property. I sometimes talk to the guy who leases it for his cattle and mows hay off of it. He encourages me to kill all the hogs I see.
