I have a shoulder mount of a 12 pt that barely scored 125", shot him a long time ago and at that time was my best. Sure enough, I shot a bigger one the next year and a dozen since. I really prefer Euro mounts. I also have a lot of racks attached to the skull plate.
I don't want this shoulder mount on my wall any longer, it's being replaced by the one I shot this year. Would a taxidermist, or anyone else, have a use for it without the rack, as in mounting a different set of antlers to it? Is this done?

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

You might find a small shop that may want it. I gave one to a guy just starting out several years ago.

I might want it. Ive been considering having a deer mounted that the rack would come off easy enough. Then I could put other racks on temporarily. Im always trying to learn to field judge score better and to teach others. I have several sets of sheds I would hope to switch out. I wouldn’t expect it to be anywhere close to not being able to tell it wasn’t correct.
At some point in life its time to quit chasing the pot of gold and just enjoy the rainbow. FR Keep your gratitude higher than your expectations. RWH
