I would venture to guess that over the past 30+ years of selling, buying and trading guns that most have been "strangers".

Well I wouldn't drive 90 miles round trip to meet a stranger. Too many flaky people.

Then if you don't sell to strangers, then your only other option is to sell to someone that you already know. If I lived by that principle, I wouldn't have been able to sell anything. Most everyone I knew never had the money.

It’s not an extreme; it’s responsible behavior.

Why isn't selling to a dealer an option?

I used to do that, but got tired of getting taken. When they want to give you 1/3 or less, well, I'm sure you understand.

The old ways are almost dead, in almost every facet of our lives. Men used to ship me hand guns without .gov being involved. No one ever killed anybody with one of those guns. The brainwashing of America is actually a real thing and it's happening every day to would be Conservative Texans.

Agreed. Brainwashing includes demanding and LTC or an FFL. Doesn't change the scenario at all, merely stomps on peoples' rights. Seller should follow his gut. Same goes for selling a car or other items.

Pass the gravy.

The LTC or a NIC does actually change the scenario. It proves the buyer isn’t prohibited from possessing a firearm. Not advocating one way or the other, just pointing out the fact for anyone who doesn’t understand the process.

Follow your gut. The few people who have been ripped off over the years on our forums probably wouldn't have been if they had followed their gut feeling.

My “gut” doesn’t have a background checker built in.

It doesn’t stomp on anyone’s rights. They’re free to find someone else to purchase from and background checks aren’t illegal.

I don't begrudge a dealer paying less than what the gun is worth retail. Their expenses are what they paid for the gun, man hours to go over the gun and verify that it is in good working condition. Electricity bill, rent, insurance, payroll, etc. There are a lot of costs associated with that gun. Then they sell the gun for retail. I would not consider them paying a wholesale price "being taken".

I understand the FFLs business end. But they're there to make a profit. Somewhere in all those expenses, they have to make room for that profit. That's necessary for them to keep their doors open. I, on the other hand, are trying to minimize my loses. If someone feels the need to help keep an FFLs doors open, then fine, sell your gun to them. If you want to keep as much money in your pocket as possible, then selling to an individual would be your best bet.

So am I being taken? In the FFLs eyes, probably not. In my eyes, absolutely. The FFL is the one that's profiting. I'm on the losing end no matter how you look at it. If I remember the laws, I cannot profit or make a living off of sales without a license. The LEOs here can correct me if I'm wrong.

If it doesn’t feel right than you did the right thing. I’ve never turned anyone down on here after agreeing to terms. I have turned them down because they were new to the site and had less than 10 or so posts or contributions to the community. They got mad and I told them good day. I’ve met a lot of good folks on here over the last 15 years or so I’ve been on here. As long as your a contributor to the site and others have good things to say I don’t have an issue selling a firearm to you.
