...or at least something beginning with a "4". Always looking for a good excuse to break out the heavy artillery!

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

That hog looks hot. Put it in the freezer!

Light that Rigby up! I've had a couple take off like their posterior is on fire when I'm almost certain I hit them. No blood, no nada. I might do the same. The factory rounds are just sitting there getting old, as am I, and who knows if I'll ever be in the field with nyati again. ninja

Don't give up on that nyati. I ain't. I keep telling Jane that I figure I've got one more buff left in me (and besides, Tanzania is beautiful and we ain't done East Africa!).

Besides. I don't want my heavy hitters to think I've forgotten how!

Certainly. As would a .22 Mag behind the ear...

This is all simply about entertainment for me. Bigger targets give me a (however slight) justification to play with the bigger toys! rifle

Would be dinner to shoot a piglet with the bigger gun and see what it does

I suspect that (depending on your bullet selection) you'd do more damage with your .308.

It's kind of counterintuitive, but the dangerous game cartridges are actually pretty well-behaved on the smaller critters (and this fat, old sister counts as "small" in relative terms). Their relatively sedate velocities (2500 fps for the .375/300 grain and 2400ish for the .416 400 grain loads) coupled with bullets designed to expand very slowly (if at all) when slammed into ton(s) of large animals results in punching a hole through critters like this with surprisingly little damage!

The first whitetail buck I shot years ago with a .375 H&H / 300 Partition tipped right over; when my buddy examined the carcass his statement was "I screw 'em up worse than this with a .270!".

A Hoffman? Good Lord, you're as bad a romantic as I am!

George would be proud of you!
