At what point do you expect a deer to have brow tines? If age how old does he need to be? Thanks Daniel

They can grow and lose them at any point. I had a 3yr old last year with only a single 1” browtine and this year he has two 4-5” browtines

Guess would be 99% will have brows by 2 yr.
Double AC always seems to know his stuff so I don’t doubt him but what he said above I have never witnessed close to that change.

I’ll post the pics once I get back to the ranch computer. Don’t have on my phone as he isn’t a shooter this year. He was a 3 year old 7pt with a single 1” browtine, but he had very good time length for a 3 year old and was very active in an area of the ranch that didn’t have a lot of homebody deer within that age class. This year as a 4yr old he grew two very respectable browtines and is now a mainframe 9pt with kickers coming off both g2s.

That example is definitely not the norm as and I agree you will usually know the general browtine trend by age two or three, but it is enough for me to say if I like the other traits about the deer I won’t shoot him just because he doesn’t have brows. There have to be multiple traits I don’t like about a buck and I’ve got to be in a good place with my does for me to shoot before he’s 5

Really agree with your last paragraph. No ONE antler trait ruins a deer and no ONE trait makes a deer.

Took a while for me to get back to the ranch computer. Buck I referenced below and I am 100% confident these are the same deer:

3.5 - Date is wrong in the pic, I know
