About a week ago I finally got the big Ol hog that’s been on camera for a month or more. I dragged him to the usual spot and left him for the buzzards and coyotes, and with the hope that I might get a shot at a coyote or two. Oddly enough, he isn’t being eaten. I wonder why. Very odd…

I have the same problem . A big one they will not eat . Usually the smaller ones do not last a day or two and are totally gone .

Did you cut open his belly and sides to allow access?

Just a few deep slashes all over him to open up the skin will suffice to get the clean up crews working! The hides on those big hogs is really tough!

I didn’t open him up, thinking his stink would be enough to get the scavengers to working. This one had a serious boar stink, and after just one day the decomposing stink made it tough to be within 20 feet. Didn’t seem to bother that 10 point that walked pretty close to him as he trailed does.

I have several large boars that have been untouched for at least four weeks. I have lots of coyotes but have not seen a buzzard since the end of bow season. In in Jones county.

My hogs usually aren't touched for a week or so. Some aren't ever touched.

We all have noticed this, sometimes you see one on the side of the road for long time without being touched.
To my understanding the animal is diseased and the other critters of the earth can detect it.

Very weather dependent also. In the summer, hogs won't last longer than on or two days, in the winter it might be over a week or two

I checked 2 hogs I shot last week I think it was, there was no sign of them ever being there. Not a hair, bone, skull, nothing. Remarkable. So yesterday's hog I put a game cam on it and will check tomorrow and see where they go. I can't remeber a hog Not being eaten around here in short order.

I have had problems with the big ones not getting eaten for a long time . I tried the tip on cutting the last really big one open . The problem for them getting eaten was clear . The skin and tough fat was about 2 inches thick . It took me about 10 minutes to just get through it to open up a trap door for access .

I'm going to start cutting them open. I just have to get some kilt.

I’ve watched coyotes cautiously walk by a dead hog that wasn’t cut open. They seem to have an inherent instinct to avoid them. I haven't seen the same cautious approach on hogs that had their stomachs cut open.

Shot a big one, was gutted but smelled so bad we dumped it. Coyote and vultures didn’t touch it. Was next to a fire ant nest and they made a new trail around it. I trust a fire ant, if they won’t eat it I won’t either. Dried for summer and buried when I went back for deer season.

Coyotes clean up the smaller size hogs in a week. The big boars never get eaten. They finally deteriorate in a couple of months on my place.

True statement and if the hog has been poisoned
