Ummm. You got it backwards. Beans are cheap. Meat is expensive. No meat is not chillie....thats just red sauce....with or without beans. rabbit, squirrel, deer, pig, cattle, possums....you name it can make chili. But beans.....that separated the well to do from the poor lol.

That’s what I’m reading… As a roofer working on roofs with a wife and 4 kids, I've stretched and worried FAR MORE than you ever could bud. Chili was made way before ww2 and the great depression...in case y'all forgot that.
