Put the axe and splitter away for the season this afternoon. Have 10+ bush cords (30 face cord if using 16 inch lengths or 40 face cord is using 12 inch lengths) of red oak, sugar maple, black cherry and yellow birch ready to burn. Wee bit of poplar mixed in for kindling and start up as well. Personally dropped, cut and hauled every last blinking log. Splitting mostly done with hydraulics but always do about 10% by hand for exercise and to keep my form sharp. That much wood will heat my place for 2.5 years if wood is primary and if just burning on weekends will last almost 10 years. 16 inch lengths on the left and smaller pile right is 12 inch lengths (i have 2 different stoves):

Going to build an additional 3 walled detached shed next year to hold at least that much again. I am 58 now and plan to keep at this for as many years as i can so that when i can't i can just ride the surplus to the grave.

Very nicely done sir!

Nothing wrong woth some hydraulic help. Did you use the tractor or utv to help bring the wood from felled site to the splitting site? Again, nothing wrong with that if you did. I would imagine 90% of the us population would freeze to death if they had to do that kind of work to stay warm in the winter. They may do a half cord and think its enough or something, but that lode is impressive.

Holy Moley.....!

Incredible amount of wood.

I can only imagine the amount of work that represents.

Nice 'stacking' as well. up

I am guessing most of the Canadian population would too. As a country we have become 85% bleeding heart liberal urban citiots connected to full serivces. People throw full on tantrums when the internet goes out for a few hours or if they can't get a latte. I'll take the bush and a thermos of black coffee made off the wood stove every time. Can't imagine what they would do if we actually lost real infrastructure.

Used the Kubota M59. Splitter does not have a hydraulic lifter. No chance i could dead lift 16 x 24 inch diameter oak rounds onto the splitter. Could be done manually but i would have to fashion a ramp to roll them up. Much easier to transport them in the bucket and then roll them out of the bucket - no lifting - just rolling:

Good looking wood pile. I had no idea that Sunbelt was also that far north.

They bought out just about every mom and pop rental shop in every small town about 7 or 8 years ago up here. Closed some shops and consolidated others. Also bought a decent sized chain of shops called Universal. Still have all the same equipment but serivce is a little less personal. The split fire splitter though is Canadian made by a small company in Norwich Ontario.. Only dual action splitters i have ever seen. No resetting required - splits in both directions - you can see in the pic the knife is sharpened on both sides. Speeds things up quite a bit.

I have been tempted to buy one many times but $120 for a weekend and no maintenance i can't be bothered.

Let's just say a few handles of whiskey went into making that pile.
