Recently, I couldn’t find a deer. I got that 8 point a week ago, and after that, nothing. No daytime deer. Frustrated, I didn’t hunt this morning, and I didn’t miss much since nothing but squirrels went to the feeders, But this afternoon I figured I had to hunt, this being the last doe day. About 5:15 here comes a really nice 9 point. A bit later here’s a big doe that I was about to shoot, when all of a sudden the woods spit out 6 or 7 doe, running at the one I had planned to shoot, and she took off too. In about 5 seconds I went from one doe to 8 doe to no doe. Geez! Well, heck, I picked up my stuff, closed blind windows,,opened the door and stepped out on the rear platform. 40 yards away is a really nice 10 point, who is showing absolutely no interest in me. He’s totally focused on the hunt for wimmin. He walked 30 yards past the front of the blind as I climbed down the 10’ ladder. He never noticed me, and tracked the herd of doe that had been by. Those ‘boys’ are focused on only one thing.

Why didn’t you blast the 10 point?

I’ve been seeing that for a few days but nothing up during the day. The doe’s don’t seem quite ready yet. I think the cold front is going to throw them into it though. The sure sign it’s on here is when I see them running all throughout the day. Dead bucks on the farm roads typically starts about the same time.

They are about done around here. It considered a good rut if it lasts til Thanksgiving. Did see a mature buck keeping close tabs on a doe in the front yard couple days ago.

I saw 3 different legal bucks pushing does in Leon county over the weekend, a couple were pretty nice, I let them walk.
My son , grandson and a friend are hunting Coleman county, they haven’t seen any rutting activity.
Maybe this next cold front will get them going.

I didn’t shoot the 10 point because I already took an 8 point (AR county), and the wife wanted a doe for the freezer.
