Happened to us too. Most active shooter so far had one split browtine and the other fish hooked backwards and he broke both clean off at the base

Unusual circumstances for me this year. Typically get three or four bucks to shoot each year, but this year, with a down number deer count, only been given two. Counted 86 bucks and 92 does on the 5,300 acre ranch and evidently a whole lot of 'em are back in my corner. Whatever on the helo count, whatever. Two ain't much. Game cam photos and my recollection of prior years made me know I needed to see the guy on the hoof. My suspicions were all completely confirmed - mature as all get out (6 at least), supreme body shape and a good looking rack. We try to take trophies at 6. Normally, this one would be good to go. Fortunately for him, that broken brow tine is somewhat of a deal killer and yes, I know it can be fixed.

I have two buck tags and they will be utilized to take out other mature bucks with less impressive looks. It ai't always about taking the biggest, bestest buck every year. Sometimes it has to be about making things better. I'll look at other bucks and ask myself one simple question, do I want to see another buck like him running around? If the answer is no, that buck will move to the top of the list. Son in laws stand the chance to be mighty happy this year as some super management deer are likely to be removed from the gene pool. Frankly, some of 'em never should've gotten as old as they are.

These two were out in front of me a bunch Sunday morning. One is the broken brow buck. The other is another mature ten which has a low rack and one which I despise. Remember him from last year, and he just doesn't have the look I want. Saw him in each of the three hunts, I had at one particular blind. He is always in the feed pen and in lots of photos. He may well need to go. No obvious culls in any of my photos. Plenty of management bucks thiough. Everything happens for a reason.
