That's an interesting insect. I've always imagined what it would be like for us humans if insects were 1,000 or more times their size. It would truly be a nightmare.

It's a Scorpion Fly and I saw one yesterday on my trap line. That's not a stinger. It's a pecker.

They won't hurt you, just look scary. A spider, a murder hornet and a scorpion had fun times and this is what it produced. I really thought you would be on my side here but you so they are harmless. Never saw that lol I would still kill it with

I have seen tacos fly all over the place and all over everybody. A lot of kids heard their Mother cuss for the first time..... Dogs love these bugs lol. Quick clean up.

“ If the female gets close enough, he then uses his anal horns to hold on to her during mating and prevent her from getting away.” Well, damn…

We were looking for bugs to feed my boys scorpion and I found one of these two nights ago. I picked it up by the wings and it started "stinging" me repeatedly. It did not hurt. The scorpion ate it.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

This made me giggle: "If the female gets close enough, he then uses his anal horns to hold on to her during mating and prevent her from getting away.
If the female shakes him off, sometimes the male will then present her with a “gift,” which might be saliva he secretes or a dead insect. Distracted, the female will eat her present and the male grasps on to her again to resume mating."

Many years ago, saw that exact courtship ritual in a beer joint in south Louisiana In a courtship display that may last hours, a male will release sex pheromones to attract a female. If she’s around, he will vibrate his wings to show off, and move that distinct abdomen of his up and down. If the female gets close enough, he then uses his anal horns to hold on to her during mating and prevent her from getting away.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf
