I had killed 7-8 pigs by this time last season and my total for this season ZIP / NADA. In the past, I could always hear them fighting when I walk to my stand in the a.m. and this year.... CRICKETS. I`ve seen a small group a few times while bow hunting but way out of range. I don`t know if someone trapped them or the last 2 summers with almost zero rain and dry tanks has changed their movement. Even in the past I`ve always had pictures of big pigs at night and usually killed one by now, but this year I do not have a picture of a big pig At All. Just pigs from 50 to 100 lbs. Not complaining at all, but I sure miss sending a round down range at them.

There is so much to eat right now they don’t have to travel far for food.

we used to track total pigs killed on our east TX lease on a marker board in the little hut where our MLD logs were kept. Between the 6-8 hunters, we would easily surpass 100 during our MLD season (Oct-Feb). Last year was horrible for both deer and pigs, corn piling up under feeders due to acorns. I only got one pig as that was the only one I saw and only took a cull 5.5 year old 8 point. The other hunters had similar results and I think our total pig count was less than 20.

This year has been a totally different story, especially with the deer. I have seen 15-25 deer each sit and at least 18 different bucks ranging from nubbin up to 4.5 y/o 8-12 points that will be some really good deer within a year or two. I think I am up to 4 or 5 pigs so far and counting. Most of the hogs are singles that have been coming in with only one group of 2 sows and about 8 medium size piglets.

but I lean towards agreeing on the extremely hot and dry summer having changed their patterns but think with the recent rains, they are swinging back to their old stomping grounds.

They are at my front feeder, that's where they are. There is one less of them today.
We are archery only so it takes time to put a dent in them, but we are working on it.

I just have what appears to be the same boar every evening about 7 or 8. The neighbor says he has recently had a new crop of piglets. As for deer, if yesterday was an example, I have no deer, but if the day before was an example, I’m overrun. If it wasn’t for the rut, I don’t think I’d be seeing the deer. They have food in the woods.

Hey man, count your blessings there! if they were around, they will be back. Been absent for a while here,
finally my little short legged friends are back. Now they are making 3am house calls, with recent rains they
are uprooting my back pasture again!....

Good luck with them...

We had a consistent decline in hog number over the last two years. Less game cam pics, less in person sightings, less kills. Up until this June when we had populations swing back to 2020 levels. We are shooting multiple hogs each trip now. Talking to a neighbor, a large landowner who used to trap hundreds of hogs each year died in May so that could explain some of the increase on the east side of the ranch but not everywhere

We had a big downturn first half of the year, but I've been seeing more and more lately. Saw a big sounder last time with about 20 full grown hogs and no shoats or piglets, I'm guessing that will change soon.

I never see pigs and I hunt right in the middle of them. They are almost completely nocturnal where I hunt in east Texas and have been for years. Used to shoot them year round in the daytime, but not anymore.

Yep - I have a lot of sign but haven't seen a hog on my place in daylight in over a year.

You need one of those double barreled crossbows.

I was loaded with pigs until last year. There were none and I hoped they would stay gone. Then grandson saw a sounder of 8 last weekend

Drive by my place in the evening....preferably, at about 80 mph. Odds are that you'll find one...or two...or more.

I have a love/hate relationship with them. We've killed 28 so far this year. 2 of which were after deer season started. If you don't have any right now, count your blessings...but know that they'll be back.

I hunted yesterday a.m. and pulled my camera card. I had pigs about every other night. I also have a big bunch that had a few bigger sows that had not been coming and the same old 150 lb. boar that is always by himself. I still feel like the drought has changed their patterns quite a bit where I hunt though and the local buzzards aren`t happy about it. The drought hasn`t affected the Turkey movement though because the past few years they have done great to the point where they are a huge nuisance.

I’ve decided not to pop a cap, during deer season, at anything other than a wall hanger buck. In January, I’m going after the pigs.

I felt the same way until I saw a 3.5 year old 4x1 spike 3 days ago. The spike was at least 10 inches and curved. He’s on the list now.
