That is a nice buck! Both are great deer

I got nuthin. Didn’t see anything moving this morning. Saw 3 doe this afternoon, and per the camera, a big mature 8 point showed up at my feeder around 8:30 pm.
I’m not seeing any bucks yet that have developed a slobbering case of lust. Cold weather might help.

I was tempted but passed on this deer at 7:45 this morning in SW Young County. He's nice but not "first hour of the season" nice. Could be a different story if I see him later in the season. No signs of rut that we could see on our place.

One neighbor must be trying to keep the deer on his side of the fence (that I replaced and 100% paid for), he has 3 going off at 6am that we can hear. Somebody to the south must have got a big ol' boar that kept wiggling. 2 shots way before legal.

Congrats to the two bucks and sightings. I got diddly. Some neighbors cows and that’s it. But still rather be here than at work. Good luck y’all.

Beautiful morning with the smoke coming off the dew on the blind. Had a pretty, but smaller 8 pt come in around 7:30 and ate corn for 10 min. Completely passed up the protein and pile of acorns I brought from the house. Just one tall spike yesterday evening that we’ll try to take out in the late season.

Here was my view this morning. East is Cadillac Oats with a feeder about 150 yards away and West is a field of 20% Oats, 20% Cereal Rye, 20% Triticale, 20% Barley, 20% Wheat with another feeder about 250 away. Lost some from the 8" of rain we got last week. Plenty of rutting activity here. Lots of chasing and even saw a few doe almost get hit in downtown Mineral Wells yesterday. Starting to see dead ones on the roads this week also.

Does have been running here for last few days. There is a small group of does that hangs around my house and this guy was checking them out on opening morning when I went to feed cows. He was out there this morning in the fog following a couple of different does. One of the local guys hunted from my pig stand and put this one in the freezer on opening day. Taken by a 55gr SP in .223 at 96 yards.

Made the first sit this evening:
Pretty slow, had a boar hog come in at 4:00, circling the feeder and munching on cedar trees (which I have never seen). At 4:15 two other pigs came in and starting eating the hand corn I had spread out, he must have felt comfortable as he came in and started feeding at 17 yards. I composed myself, got into position and sent and arrow right over his back.....they ran off a few hundred yards then mosyed on off.
Had two does and a fawn come in at 4:30 and ate until 5....didn't see anything else other than 1 doe 100 yards off that didnt' come in. Heard 3 shots, one close the others far off.
Slow evening, normally I have more action at this feeder....hopefully this year isn't a repeat of last year, which was terribly slow.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The buck on the left is from the same property and netted 135. We had that one at 5 yo.

I saw our big boy pushing does a week and a half ago...40 yards outside my bedroom window. Then a trail cam pic at 3am a week ago. My son and I tried to catch him at one of the blinds, but no dice. I hope he's still standing and just on a walkabout, looking for love. Good thread, although there were almost as many posts about mowing your lawn.

Had this guy at 30 yards twice in a tree stand with a muzzle loader in hand and let him walk. Also had a very nice 8 point at 15 yards last night and gave him a pass also. I have one deer in the freezer already I must be getting soft. Or being retired and hunting the place you live on takes a lot of pressure off.

Thought it was gong to be a pretty good one, then the hunting went south in a hurry Saturday morning no shots heard, around 7:50 a nice young buck showed up at the feeder pen and kept staring inside, walked around it for a couple of minutes looking onside then left. I have a buffet of corn, alfalfa and a sweet block in there. Then around 8:10 four dogs show up, run around the feeder a couple of times and take off. Had a couple of small bucks stroll by a little later. Saturday evening saw a couple of does and a fawn show up, I'm thinking hey this could get interesting. They jumped into the pen enjoying the buffet for a couple of minutes and a small perverted little buck chased them off dang it. Sunday am pretty optimistic it is going to be a good morning, that did not last long! Around 7:00 am a buck about 30 yards out comes running full blast past the blind from right to left, did not have his nose to the ground just hauling azz. Couple of seconds later 2 of the 4 dogs from yesterday morning came running out from the same spot chasing him, they were about 30- 40 yards behind him, about 3-4 seconds later the other two dogs join in. needless to say I did not see Diddly Squat the rest of the morning. Had a great time this weekend, lots of good folks, food and fun BS with lots of laughs. Probably head out Thursday eve and get after again
