Here's hoping memories are made and there's lots of laughs tomorrow night, and other nights during the season, with friends and family around a fire pit all over Texas. It's a dying tradition and something I've looked forward to for as long as I can remember. At a recent youth hunt on my place, the "huntmaster" decided there wasn't time for a campfire on Saturday night. He never had kids. Kids like a campfire. If he'd shut the hell up and built a fire while the kids were out, they could've seen a bonfire coming in from the blinds. I've had a couple of "discussions" with a "lease manager" (aka "Deer Nazi") about how what happens with the kids on a lease, around a campfire, is a dam sight more important than if some buck that was brought in was 5&1/2 or 6&1/2 years old.

Here's my oldest grandson, 4 years ago, immediately after he got 9 stitches in his shin at the Junction ER. He's way too busy with sports now to be with Grampy, but his uncle will be with me around a fire, perhaps with a wee dram in his hand, tomorrow night. The boy will be back, I have zero doubt whatsoever. His little sister (she's a killer) and cousins too. I play the long game. Waidmannsheil to all!

Some folks just don't understand. Cool shot and the memories that go with it!

Reminds me to be sure to check for the "burn ban" signs on the way to the lease.

Love that photo. Keep on adding memories.

There is a burn ban where I’ll be hunting. Scratch that, it was lifted 2 weeks ago.

Campfires are magical.

I’m big on burning wood. The rest of my family can’t understand it. I grew up with campfires. I’ve also been a part of camps that didn’t have campfires. Nowhere near as fun.

I have not had a campfire on my place, mainly due to dry conditions, but I have a fire in the fireplace going just just about every minute we are there.

High School Sports have gotten us tied up Friday night but I plan on making it out Saturday.

The fire pit is where friendships are built, stories are shared and memories are made.

Was told my entire childhood I was gonna wet the bed for playing with fire. Love a campfire. First few years at the ranch it was our only source of heat and cooking. I was the kid that begged to end sports it interfered with hunting and fishing to much. Never regretted it. Good luck and good times to y’all cheers

Since the beginning of man, we’ve yearned for a campfire. As a kid, it was the best part of camping

Good times there, need to get our Adirondack chairs built so we can make some memories around our camp fire!

I love fire places, wood stoves and a campfire, just the way I was raised.

One of the best parts of a trip to the lease. There's a full working kitchen at the lease, but we all still gather around the fire to cook dinner each night.

I won’t be on a lease that doesn’t allow campfires. The kids and I will make a fire at home whenever we feel like it. We all get excited about it.

Awesome pic! And love the comment about the long game, they'll be back. So many memories around a campfire.
