Thanks! Been on and off of TBH, not posting a ton, just reading a lot of the threads there, but their site is really slow since the update. Searching for other options, I ran across this site and actually like it much better. I recently (2nd year) got on a lease in central Texas, Thx for the big welcome
He is one of the bucks that doesnt read the books. Small tarsal glands show youth, thinner neck that breaks well above brisket shows youth. knobby knees shows age. Bigger belly shows some age (or just well fed), but his body certainly doesn't have the appearance of a young buck.
I could go either way on him, 3.5 up to 5.5yo.
Have you seen him interact with other deer? If he is hanging with the group he is prob younger. If he is the dominant buck and other bucks steer clear, he is older. Sometimes a couple pics make it really hard to age. This is one example.

It's amazing how much different they can look between a couple of poses. I've seen some deer I knew were 2.5 stand in a way that made you think at least 4.5, maybe even 5.5. But then they move and the next pose they look every bit their age. You made a good point about his interactions.
