Thanks! Been on and off of TBH, not posting a ton, just reading a lot of the threads there, but their site is really slow since the update. Searching for other options, I ran across this site and actually like it much better. I recently (2nd year) got on a lease in central Texas, Thx for the big welcome smile

Not seeing age on this one, if these pics are recent I would say 3.5YO.

I feel like he's younger, too. First pic I would have said 2.5-3.5, second pic still 3.5. He could be 4.5 but I'd be surprised. Score ~110-120.

He is one of the bucks that doesnt read the books. Small tarsal glands show youth, thinner neck that breaks well above brisket shows youth.
knobby knees shows age. Bigger belly shows some age (or just well fed), but his body certainly doesn't have the appearance of a young buck.

I could go either way on him, 3.5 up to 5.5yo.

Have you seen him interact with other deer? If he is hanging with the group he is prob younger. If he is the dominant buck and other bucks steer clear, he is older. Sometimes a couple pics make it really hard to age. This is one example.

It's amazing how much different they can look between a couple of poses. I've seen some deer I knew were 2.5 stand in a way that made you think at least 4.5, maybe even 5.5. But then they move and the next pose they look every bit their age. You made a good point about his interactions.

Agree, a couple of pics showing the same deer can be vastly different appearing. It is weird sometimes.

That is why aging on the hoof is much easier than in pics, but even then, some aging on the hoof is still a wild guess.

Only way to know a deer's age for sure is by ear tags, but that doesn't apply to the majority of us

Correct, that's why I look keenly at mannerisms he displays and what those deer around him display with him. Subordination or superiority
