Bow hunting this afternoon and this Doe got so close I could spit on her. She had no clue I was even there. Nothing like being at ground level with the critters when they walk right by you.

That would be cool.

I fell asleep one time leaning against a tree, woke up and had a doe sniffing my boot....LOL

Many years ago I was invited on a hunt down by San Saba on a place I had never been to. Way before first light the lease owner dropped me off at a tree he said had a blind in it the year before. Trying to see where to get up in the tree I quickly figured out it was all grown up and not a place I could hunt that morning. At first light I could see there was nothing around me for at least 50 yards! So I decided to just sit by the tree for awhile and see if anything was moving around. Since it was so wide open I just laid my bow on the ground. About 15 minutes a small 8 point came out of the line of brush just feeding along but coming straight toward me. I knew if I tried to get my bow he would be gone so I just sat there thinking he would see me soon and run off. He kept coming till he was about 3 feet away and stuck his neck out to look at me closer. My heart was racing but I just sat real still. All of a sudden he was running in place for about 2 seconds then he stopped and threw his head around to look at me again. I never moved and he just fed off behind me Coolest thing I ever had happen in my 73 years!

If you look at the tops of her hips, you can see how poorly conditioned she is. Tough, dry summer of raising fawn(s). We passed on one like that this weekend.

that is funny - I had a pop up blind several years ago and a 160 inch buck was walking down the sendero. I was not going to shoot him so he kept walking. As he got closer to my blind he became curious and walked up to the blind and literally put his head in one of the windows on the blind. I would have taken a picture but if I would have moved he would have freaked out. One of the coolest hunts I have ever had.

For some reason our deer freak out over pop ups even after a month of them being there. I have resorted to wire frame stands with natural brush piled all around them to make it as dark as possible inside.

I love a well set up ground blind.

My last year on my lease I purchased a cross bow and popup blind that was the greatest time. I had two small bucks that decided to bed down 10 yards from me. That was so cool miss that a lot.
