I'm headed out to one of my public land spots Friday-Sunday. Looks like highs in the mid-to-upper 70s with lows in the 60s. Sunday that front is coming through, so it will be windier and a little chillier in the afternoon/evening. Rain is in the forecast all weekend, with thunderstorms and scattered showers.
I'll be out there regardless, but I don't have a ton of experience hunting in these kind of conditions. Drizzly I like, but because of the humidity, it doesn't look like much temperature fluctuation. So i don't know if deer will be moving around more, less, or about the same. Ideally, I'd be hunting Mon-Wed when it's cold and wet, but my job keeps getting in the way of deer hunting.
What do you think deer movement will be like?

As a ruminant, deer have to eat. They may bed out a norther for a few hours, but at some point they absolutely have to have food.
Drizzly will be good. I would locate a food source or trails between bedding and food sources, and during periods when it stops raining be extra alert. They'll get up and feed. Also, when they sense the impending front, if the current weather is good, they may also try to get a bellyful before bedding down.
Good luck-as you know, can't kill them from the house. I applaud your effort!

I've already seen a good bit of chasing going on. If the buck-to-doe ratio isn't way off, you might want to check out any known chasing areas.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Good information. Thanks y'all!
With the volatile weather all weekend, I'm probably going to be in hunt-mode all day long. I know where a couple bucks have been bedding. As long as they haven't been pushed out, it could be perfect conditions to try and get close to them and set up on a scrape.

Rain doesn’t impact whitetail movement in my experience unless it is absolutely torrential. I do notice change with weather temp and that is often correlated to rain, but rain itself seems to have little impact. I like to hunt the edge of the front the best.

They live out in the environment 24/7 ... they may hunker down a bit from time to time during peak weather events, but all in all, they will move pretty much as normal.

Well, y’all were right! Not one of the big boys I was after, but I don’t complain about putting any deer down on public land. Prayers were answered, and it was worth sitting out in the cold and rain to get it done. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/10/full-67594-404100-a7c89ebb_1488_4b0d_9452_df2cde59b76b.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2023/10/full-67594-404101-fa798b83_eb4c_4536_ba06_6ac108f8f37e.jpeg)

Good job, some character on the tip of his left main beam. What day did you take him down, temp, raining?? This was yesterday at about 545pm. It rained pretty hard all day until about 2pm (took that opportunity to scout some areas without bumping deer). Pretty quick after the rain let up, the does popped out,, then the bucks followed. It was still misting/drizzling, but not enough to keep them bedded. I can tell that the bucks are getting worked-up and more aggressive. There was a doe 30yds upwind of me when this guy walked in. He walked in straight downwind (not according to plan), and walked to the base of my tree. He walked upwind from me and popped into a shooting lane at 15yds. Double lung, and dropped 50 yds away . I’m embarrassed to say how sore I am from that one-mile pack-out.

There isn't a better time to be in the deer woods than after a good rain.
Congratulations on a nice buck.

Way to tough it out in undesirable conditions so you were in the right spot when that rain paused. Congratulations on your success this season.

I had a grill like that hadn't seen one in many years, cool main beam too A friend bought an investment property and the previous owner had left it. I need to take a wire brush to it and get the rust off. Pretty handy grill though. Burns very nicely.
