This past Saturday i decided to load up my boy (toddler) in his hiking backpack and take him out to some of my favorite arrowhead hunting spots. Its been pretty slow lately but the water was starting to clear up nicely after the rains a few weeks back, so i figured we could check some of the deep holes that are usually out of sight.

Well lo and behold, the first spot we get to something catches my eye. I reach for it and the second i touched it, i could tell this was a quality point. I immediately noticed the tell-tale paleolithic shape, and as it dried i started to get a better look at the perfectly preserved flaking that can be seen all the way to the micro edge work. Dang near had to change my shorts.

I got a few opinions on type and then confirmed with Dr Thomas R Hester (Professor of Anthropology, emeritus, UT at Austin) that it is a Levi point which is suggested to date 8,800-8,100 BP.
https://projectilepoints.net/Points/Levi.html

Already received a few offers of ~$2K for it (and could probably run that up a bit) but i think ill hang on to it so i can share it with my boy when hes older.

Outstanding find. What hands, how many hands have handled that point since it was made. Just something that I wonder about when seeing an artifact of that type.

That one is actually good enough that if it were mine I'd have Dwain Rogers 'COA' it.

Grant and Eugene were out looking for arrowheads on a 25,000 acre Kincaid pasture bordering the Nueces. They were back & forth circling one another, when Grant hollered out to Eugene, "Look what you stepped over and I found!". Eugene came back and there was this big, beautiful arrowhead with hints of gold tones. It was in perfect condition. Grant hooted and hollered and just could not believe that Eugene had missed it. He let everybody know about it, everyone. He carried that thing around in a lttle box lined with felt and sure was aggressive with showing this beautiful object and letting everyone know he was a better arrowhead finder than old Eugene.

At some point, he got in touch with a paeleontoligst at good ol' UT and sent him digital photos. He immediately replied indicating it was one of the most interesting specimens he had ever seen and suggested it might be some sort of ceremonial point. Everyone got to hear about that also. Grant wasn't going put it in the mail, that's for sure. Heading to Austin wasn't exactly his thing either.

About nine months later, it was dove season and they had a bunch of hunters. They all came in after the evening hunt and someone asked Grant about his find the prior year. He hustled out to the truck, brought it in and went through his now tired and even more lengthy story while admonishing Eugene for his oversight. When the story was over, another hunter reported he found one remarkably similar with a slightly different color. He produced it from his pocket and Grant thoroughly looked it over. He indicated this was once a once in amillion occurrence and, oh man, how could it get any better? Then another hunter chimed in saying he had one also, then another. All of a sudden, Grant came to the conclusion he had been duped.

Eugene's strory was even better. He had found these "counterfeits" and drew up a plan to have Grant find it. He would walk in front of Grant, drop it and then have to circle back and pick it up when Grant walked over it the first two times. th best part was allowing Grant to have almost a full year with it.
