That's one hell of a first, last, 400th -- any buck! How you "got her done" without spending at least $2,000 on the latest "flagship" bow is a real puzzlement.

Very Nice Buck. Congrats. What part of Parker Co? I have seen some really nice ones around the weatherford area.
Thank you. Exactly right. His 10 point buddy cleared out the other bucks, and I just rolled up on him and his two does this evening with my 4wheeler. We all were coming to the feeder at once. Amazing show they put on right in front of me with the motor idling.

According to records of Texas Big Game Awards website; this deer I harvested on 10/13/23 is the new record for Parker County. He scored 194 2/8 Gross/183 Total Net. He qualifies for both Boone & Crockett and Pope & Young. This is my first whitetail deer; my first deer in Texas; and first deer harvested on my ranch. Never stop dreaming!
Set-up: Maverick Blind elevated 4 foot on a platform over tank/pond on one side; feeder on the other (highly recommend the peanut butter corn). Equipment: Xpedition Compound Bow (bought used for $300) @ 55 lbs. (I’m getting old) CBE Illuminated Sight Gold Tip 340 Arrows with Muzzy Broadheads

UPDATE: After going through the paces with (1)Texas Big Game scorer; (3)Pope & Young scorers; and (1)Boone & Crockett scorer for RE-SCORE… The consensus is the first score of 183 was wrong by far. Official score is now 168. Still Pope & Young; but, NOT the Parker County record. He will be attending awards ceremony on August 17th in Ft. Worth.
All in all…still a great first whitetail buck, and this entire experience has been educational. Thanks to all that cheered.

Wow just 2 points short of B&C. Still an incredible buck that anyone and everyone would be proud to have harvested, especially with a bow
Had a great time at the Texas Big Game Awards Banquet yesterday. Some great deer from last years harvest were displayed by award recipients (including my own in this thread). Good food, drinks, raffle had by all. Thank you Texas Big Game officials and vendors.

DJ, awesome buck, can you give us a little story behind the story? Since you mention your first whitetail TX buck, did you grow up elsewhere and hunt other than whitetails, mulies, exotics, Black tail bucks, etc.? From your pic, you're obviously longer in tooth like many of us on THF, just trying to understand your hunting background to add some context. Again, great buck!

I grew up in So.Cal. 15 miles from Downtown L.A. as the son of L.A. County Deputy Sheriff, Lt. Rod Johnson in the city of Arcadia; home of Santa Anita Race Track (I could read a racing form before high school). At age 6; my parents would send me every Aug. on a Greyhound bus to the desert (Indio) where my grandparents would pick me up, and drive me to their remote desert home. At age nine; I passed my Hunters Safety Course held at the Sheriffs Dept. From that point; my grandparents would have to plead I come in out of the heat while I was tooling around on my mini-bike with my .22 in my hand. Out there is where I crafted my hunting skills utilizing the local game preserve (Wister Unit) for Ducks & Geese; the public use areas for Doves & Pheasants; and around the house for quail and Jackrabbits. While in the Boy Scouts of America, my den leader and his family were incredible archers (they hunted pheasants with a bow) that taught me the art of archery shooting. From there, I hunted the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains just outside back yards in the Angeles Nation Forest with my bow. For bigger mulies, my pop and I would hunt the Sierra Nevadas on horseback. We were one of the few families in Arcadia with horse property (I would ride my Shetland pony to school on show-n-tell day). I usually filled my tag every year with my bow. Always venison in the freezer. There where times I had to convince a resident or two that I was a wildlife manager licensed by the State when I dragged my deer out of those foothills above the San Gabriel Valley. I never lie. Every ethical Hunter is a LICENSED WILDLIFE MANAGER. In 2006; I was selected out of over 66,000 applicants to compete on Wayne Pearson’s Ultimate Outdoorsman’s Search where I was flown to South Dakota to hunt Pheasants at the E Circle E ranch. After that, I began filming “It’s Your Outdoors” but; while on the 3rd episode, I was rear-ended by a drunk driver going 60 mph. I was unable to walk for 3 months. As an athlete & and Hollywood Stuntman, I knew how to heal myself and build my abdominal strength to gain mobility & function again. But, that window of opportunity closed on me. After becoming a Teamster Local 399 member (what a lot of stuntmen do after injury or retirement) I left the Industry when the Union insisted I got the Covid vaccine after 10 years of service. I moved here to Texas to pursue Team Roping as a hobby. I qualified in Stephenville for the World Series of Team Roping on my third attempt. And, now after harvesting the highest scoring Whitetail (low-fense) in North Texas last season, I now declare myself as an official Texan. Many still wouldn’t, but I will take on any challenger.
