Saturday afternoon, after getting the cow hung up we went up looking for the nice bull husband saw Friday evening.
Rode up towards the back part of the home property looking for them, stopping at every ridge and walking up to glass over for the elk.
Parked at one ridge and husband gets out and starts up to peek over, I turn around and behind us are about 250 elk streaming towards the ridge overlooking the highway.
Somehow we missed them and rode upwind of them I guess.
There went my 6 pt bull, some raghorns and tons of cows, all the elk on the ranch we figured.
Not a happy sight to see.
We went and looked over the highway and did not see them cross, hoping they went down then followed the ridge back up to the middle of the ranch. Funny how 250 elk can just disappear.

Anyhow, next morning I was out looking for a WT and husband went looking above the meadows along the creek for the herd.
Thankfully he found a lone spike and took the 125 yd shot and dropped him right below where my cow died.
Had him hanging in the cooler by 10 am.

Up next weekend for opening of mule deer and more elk hunting, I'll be looking for a bull maybe.
Saw a nice 3 1/2 yr old buck along our drive out.

Tail end of the herd. The rocky ridge in background is across the highway from the ranch.

View from the atv to the down cow at edge of sunlight. We cave manned the quarters down the ridge, carried them over our shoulders.

Took my 296 yd shot from under the tree with the arrow, downed log for a rest.

Bought this knife from a member here and I love it.

Young buck for next year maybe.

Went up today and brought our elk home to hang until Friday , we'll process them then.
Cattle folks were along the highway gathering cows.
Great timing as they are off the one end of the property for the season now and gather the other end next week.
Saw some elk from the highway and they told us the big bull was still on the back end of the property.

Going up Saturday for 4 days, elk and mule deer hunting, deer opens Sunday.
Was a bitter, cold rain while up today. Snow tomorrow and Thursday night but not too much up that way we hope.

Storm blew in with rain, wind, snow and cold.
Great day to stay in and process some elk.
We have eaten 2 tenderloins and they are great.
This will be our best elk meat in a few years, last 3 or so have been tough - literally.

Some chops will, go to our non hunting friends, one makes the beer and the other gives us walleye, perch and crappie filets. The fisherman gets burger too.

Wood stove is cranking out the heat and the cat is snoozing by the fire.
Saturday we go up for elk hunting and opening days of mule deer season.
Should be nice and warmish, 50's, during the day and cold at night.

Highway cam from 1 ridge over from parts of the ranch.

Congrats so far. No pronghorn this year or did I miss the post? I'm trying to decide if I want to save my elk and deer points in WY. I guess I will and buy a point.

Opening day success.
No bull elk found but a decent buck showed up that evening.
Saw 14 bighorn rams, too far for a pic but they should be around rest of Fall.

Thanks folks.
Never saw this buck before the season.
We'll send in teeth for aging.
He shows the traits of the older bucks we see, crown points on those top forks .
29 1/2 inches outside spread, 18 1/2 in inside spread.
Found him on the way back to the house, we always leave just enough time to get around while still legal shooting light.
He was standing by a rock pile looking at doe across the way. 138 yd shot, 300wsm. Went maybe 40 yds and piled up.

Had a nice view that morning but no deer.
