I think today is the deadline for the premium hunts. Good luck to everyone. I'll be looking to see if anyone here wins one in the next two weeks when they are announced.

No luck today... I'm still confused how some of them go straight to "Not Selected" while the others say "Pending 2nd Draw."

I don't understand either. I don't see on the https://www.txfgsales.com where the big ticket hunts are listed. I applied for a bunch of those too. Good luck.

Standbys are also up to the hunt manager. Some hunts have them and some don't.

No luck today... I'm still confused how some of them go straight to "Not Selected" while the others say "Pending 2nd Draw." Common sense would tell me once all drawn hunters have accepted their permit online, the software would change the status to "not selected" because there would no longer be any permits available for a 2nd draw. If one or more of the hunters never accepts their permits by the deadline, TPWD would then initiate a 2nd draw after the accept/payment deadline on the 1st draw.

I believe Sniper John is correct with his explanation of the selection process. Yesterday I received an e-mail from the TPWD that said I'd been selected for a hunt at South Llano River SP and I have until 10/26/2023 to pay for my permit. If I don't reply by then the permit will be redrawn.

If one or more of the hunters never accepts their permits by the deadline, TPWD would then initiate a 2nd draw after the accept/payment deadline on the 1st draw. Common sense would make you think that, hence why I'm confused. It would not be remotely possible for every single hunter who was selected to accept and pay for their permit within seconds of the drawing occurring. On drawing days I update the page roughly every five minutes, and I've even watched the system march down the category once it starts. I'm saying that 3 out of the 4 hunts I applied for went from "App Received" to "Pending 2nd Draw" and one went straight to "Not Selected." That hunt had 24 permits. It's not possible that all 24 hunters accepted, paid, and updated in the system within that small time frame of five minutes or less. If it were a one permit hunt, perhaps, but it defies belief that 24 permits were drawn and paid for in under 5 minutes. There's minimum one guy out here who left his wallet in his truck and needed to go get it, or if you're like me, you'd need at least five minutes to make sure your wife says its ok for that date.

Sure it is possible within reason. Unless you know what time they did the draw and your refreshing the page every second, you would not be able to tell when the final party accepted their permits, so I don't know how you would would know everyone paid under 5 minutes. But I think in reality unless it is a hunt that does not have a second draw to begin with, you would find hunts with multiple hunters like 40, 50, + permits almost never go to not selected buy the deadline because of reasons as you presented. Yet hunts with few permits including drawn parties composed of family members paid by one person could easily be taken up the first day or two. Both of my draws this year, I got the emails and accepted within 5 minutes. Credit card info is in the cloud and some don't cost anything, so it only takes a few seconds either way. In today's digital smart phone world, things move pretty fast. Not many luddites left these days. Or it is entirely possible TPWD has you on the blacklisted database.

Those are some good points. I concede. I certainly hope TPWD doesn't have me on a black list, although I might have left a Little Debbie wrapper in their blind last season.

My last drawn hunt was at powderhorn. At the end of the hunt on the last day, staff had to retrieve my camera from a blind in one compartment, and a jacket and pack from two blinds in a second compartment. I had left stuff all over the place and I'm not blacklisted.

I think I found the reason for the mistereeee (pun intended ) why some hunts go immediately to not selected on the first draw. Because there was no second draw. From the drawn hunt FAQ. What is the Secondary Drawing? If all hunt permits are not accepted by the payment/acceptance deadline, a Secondary Draw will be performed to select alternate hunters. The purpose of the Secondary Drawing is to fill as many hunt positions as possible to maximize hunter opportunity. Not all areas have Secondary Drawings.
