If you find yourself in or near Albany I would recommend stopping in the Goodnight Steakhouse.

Yes...this was formally the Beehive and a buddy I went to high school with bought it and revived it from what have resulted in another shuttered iconic restaurant. The name change was mandatory and in West Texas fashion he went with Goodnight to honor the legendary rancher.

I went out with a few buddies for a Dove hunt last week and we ate there both nights and enjoyed the food and ambiance. The have good steaks, CFS and other offerings along with a bar stocked with solid offerings that should satisfy most.

As several members of this very forum have stated, the restaurant business has become a labor of love and not huge profits and I promise the Goodnight is no different.

Give it a go if you're in the area.

Just a few miles down the road from me. I'll check it out at some point.

Will definitely try when I am out that way. To your point, I am not sure how "food only" restaurants can stay afloat. Those that sell ample amounts of booze have to be much more lucrative.
The Whistle Stop in Decatur seats about 20 max, and is only open for breakfast and lunch M-F. I am not sure how they keep it going.

I'll also mention this....the customer service was excellent given the times we are in and how remote the location is. There are a lot of local folks on the wait staff and ready to serve, which I think that is great as they don't have a lot of options when it comes to work. They either have to drive for miles or settle for another job that may or may not be as appealing.

Helping these small towns remain iconic and charming is part of what makes me enjoy the adventure to the field.

BTW - there is a mercantile store just off the square on Main St. (across the street from the Pharmacy) that sells some great clothing and hunting gear (Wilson, GameGuard, etc.)

Thanks for the update. Been wondering when that place would reopen. I certainly wish them well.
