I had cleaned a small area of my property and noticed these little guys popping up. We had a part of our property cleared a couple of years ago and lots of oaks were removed. Do any of you know what type oak it might be? Thanks.

Red oak varietals will have a pointed leaf in some fashion White oak varietals will have rounded leaf edges.
Thats a generalization, but gets you by for the most part.
Other than that, i am useless

Yeah, I guess I was hoping to get an exact subspecies. I know I am asking for a lot. Seems Superduty might be pretty close or as close as I'm going to get. I'm actually thrilled it's even a white oak. Most of what we have are red oak varieties.

This is my big southern red oak in the front. Power company cut it in half. Gotta have that electric, though!

Thanks. I actually think mine look straight and not curved like on the bur oak. My eyes might be deceiving me, though. All we have to go on are the leaves for now. I took one from the root and planted it. The last red oak sucker I took died on me. We'll see what this one does. I hope it takes. I need a white oak something terrible.

I'll grab a leaf or two tomorrow and compare them. I'll take a pic as well. The closest post oak I have is about 75 yards away from where these are coming up. That would be a heck of a root system.

Some post oaks look different though, so it’s hard to say. It’s just where my mind went at first glance. SuperDuty might be right with the Bur Oak as well. I’m sure there is some Tree ID group around that could tell us for sure. I’m curious to see the correct answer.

I took my binoculars out there and my post oak leaves look more like the pic in the chart. I think that particular post oak is dying. The front face of the leaves are all facing north! Never seen anything like that before.

I just walked out to one of many hundreds of post oaks on my ranch. Bosque County.
