WARNING!!! Under no circumstances should you take your equipment to this dealer, Allen McFarland, dba THE OUT HOUSE I hear that he may be selling out and there is a commercial listing for the building.
But my experience is from about this time last year, when I took my Ten Point Triton crossbow in to have a bowstring put on. My bow was 3 years old and while practicing shooting the string broke. I ordered a string and took it to Cabela's to have it replaced. But I had noticed that the cables were worn and needed to have them replaced.
They did not have the cables and against my better judgement, took the crossbow to the OUT HOUSE. He has a terrible reputation for his customer service, but he could provide the cables. He said about 10 business days, which would put it right in the middle of my red stag hunt in Scotland. So when I got back, I did not see any email or phone call from his store, consequently I called him, and his wife answered, she put me on hold for about 5 minutes, came back and said it was not ready. Then after 3 more days I go by to see if my bow was ready.
I went in to pick up my TEN POINT TRITON at the store, and he hands me a CENTER POINT crossbow! ! ! ! I immediately told him that was not my crossbow, he replied "yes it is, it has your name on the tag"! After about 20 minutes of a very heated discussion that was going no where except to a violent ending, and having searched his entire store, would not search his records, he never admitted that he had screwed up!! He says "I always put my tag on the bow after I call my customer"!
I had no recourse, calling the police would not produce the bow, nor would he compensate me in anyway, as he had definitely given my bow to someone else by mistake. Most likely he had put the other customer's tag on my bow. He had also stated that he had called me and left message on my voicemail. I showed him my phone's call log for the past two months, there was no record of him ever calling. The only record of his number was when I called him.
He took the CENTER POINT and laid it down on the counter as his final gesture. I took that crossbow and left that store, never to hear from him at all!
I hope that he is selling out or at least gets out of the business. His attitude has been found in that store for many years and most people in and around Waco have heard about his poor customer service reputation. But in my desperate situation, I succumbed to becoming another victim of Allen McFarland.................!!!

I would have left that thing right there and called an attorney on the spot. It would be worth the expense to take him to small claims court. He might even try to make you happy. Should have tagged it as soon as he accepted it.

10 years ago when I was in college I had money burning a hole in my pocket for a new to me used bow. I went in the out house (an hour drive away) with full intentions of purchasing a bow. They couldn’t spare the time to show me or set up a bow for me to try out. That was the first and last time I ever went.

I spent a short time in there one day. Time wasted. Never went back.

Having lived in Waco for years, we would go there once in a while when we had to, and I did purchase a starter bow for my son there. We bought a few arrows and used the upstairs indoor range a few times. Yes he is a gruff, cranky SOB and mistreats customers but there was no place else. We would joke about how we were always on edge and watching what we say there lest we get chastised. It was kind of like going to see the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld. If he went out of business and a decent archery shop opened up in its place we would all be happy. I can absolutely believe the original poster's story and wish he had some recourse.

I have a friend whose son is going to school in Waco and working there part time. He makes t-shirts and whatever needs to be done. This guy sounds like Murle's gun shop in Granbury.
