There's a reason all the small craft breweries do IPAs... and it ain't because it tastes good... sick

I've always liked shiner beer, but it's not like it was thirty years ago. Also, for whatever reason the consistency varies widely.

Went out to Olmos Store last week - what a blast from the past that place is in the middle of nowhere. Said BL orders droopped from 20 cases to 7 or 8. Said the slack got picked up by Lone Star.

Went through a long thread on another forum about Lone Star. To me, it is a fine example of a classic American lager -- nothing fancy, but satisfying. Heard the same comments that "something changed a few years ago and it isn't the same."

I keep Shiner Bock, Miller Light, Lone Star and Eight in the fridges. Shiner is definitely my favorite by a long shot.

Speaking of changes. When I was young I used to have a Schlitz with grandad down in his basement at the end of the day(steel cans with the tear away tabs). I remember it having a distinctive bite to it. A few years ago I saw some in the store and wanted to travel down memory lane...the taste wasn't even close. Yes I know its a skunk beer.

Beer is funny stuff, especially when you are younger. I first went to college before anyone had ever heard of craft beer. The signs in the taverns just said, "Western beer, 35 cents, Eastern, 50 cents."
In those days in the early 1970s, Coors could not be sold in Oregon for some obscure reason (non-union plant?), so of course the usual Northwest beers -- Blitz Weinhard, Olympia, Rainier -- were considered poor also-rans compared to the legendary Coors. One weekend two of the guys in our dorm had a brilliant idea. They rented a small U-haul and drove all the way to Utah, where the drinking age was 18 at the time. They packed that U-haul full of cases of plain-Jane Coors Banquet in cans, hauled it back to the University of Oregon, and sold it for about three times what they paid for it! Capitalism at work, hand in hand with our beer ignorance. roflmao

My favorite beer is free beer. My second favorite is cold beer. Free cold beer and life doesn’t get any better. Other than that I buy Coors Light or XX. I also think Shiner is overrated.

I like Shiner Bock, but I agree their overall popularity probably has a lot to do with being a Texas thing more than the flavor of their beer. I also like the Blonde, and the Prickly Pear they used to make was my favorite beer after being out in the summer heat. I was really disappointed when they quit making it.

I like Shiner Bock. I tried their other offerings and they are just ok.

I wanted to support Shiner but Yuengling is much better for the price.

I do like shiner bock, grew up drinking it with my uncles and dad. Ruby Redbird is my second favorite shiner product. Great uncle always brought a 12 of MGD to all family bbq’s and it holds a special place in my heart. My daily beer flops between coors original and Miller lite. I like drinking a hazy IPA for a first beer but don’t care to drink many at a sitting. I do miss the bud light Chelladas… gonna have to buy some fixings and make them.
