All y’all saying run his Azz off for lying I can tell aren’t overseeing labor/construction type hands in this day and age
Because it’s not as easy as that right now
And Thumper knows what I am talking about, it’s what we’re all dealing with right now
They guy may in fact need to go but people like me really have to think about the difficulty of replacing him

Depends upon the person and the lie. If it was from what you think is a good person and they told a little white lie to cover something personally embarrassing then I would just reprimand them. If it was from what you deem a sketchy person and the lie was to cover their azz on something they know they did wrong, then punt them! This here, an embellishment to a personal story or endeavor, not nearly the same as a job related, detrimental to company's well being or bottom line. Not all lies or fibs are created equal and could open a person up even to wrongful termination claims in some cases. Texas is a employment at will state. I'm fairly sure a violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act or a whistleblower retaliation is needed for this.

Terminate them or it becomes habit. Best for you and them. Had a really sweet high school kid I had to fire a couple years back. Was dependable but couldn't follow the rules we have in place about bringing friends on the property without permission. 2nd time I caught her boy friend tooling around in my 4x4 while she was feeding horses I had to let her go. Turns out she had been warned by my barn manager about the same thing. Lot's of tears and apologies involved and I hope she learned a life lesson.

Tough when you have an untrustworthy person. You make decisions and commitments based on what they say. Your butt is on the line re productivity. Been there, donethat.

It really depends on what they're lying about. If they come in on Monday morning bragging about the gal they had over the weekend when there was no gal or the huge fish they caught when they really didn't go fishing I could care less. If they are lying about work stuff that is another mater. When it comes to work lying goes hand in hand with stealing.

I think of the folks that I know that have called in sick just to get a three day weekend. LEOs, nurses, lawyers, and secretaries; all are liars. None get fired. In construction this is even worse.

When I promoted and had a rookie team, I disabled texting on my phone. The first night I told them if they were calling off sick, they couldn’t text me and they would need to actually call me. The looked like they had been hit in the face with a dirty diaper. I stopped that problem before it started.

Back in West Baltimore, I once had a guy who had excuse after excuse for being late or not showing up to work. Good worker while at work though. One day a no show (two days) and I pretty much had it, but figured I owe him if legitimately AWOL. Gave me some fishy story about his three year old had been missing and they were looking for him. Blamed everybody, ex wife, great aunt, moonies (look em up), yada. Fired him. The next day the Baltimore Sun reported the discovery of a three year old standing on a street corner near Lexington Market holding Reverend Moon flyers in his hands. I felt stupid and just incredulous at the same time. Not made up, really happened. No, I did not apologise and hire him back...

We had an older gentleman "of color" work as a mechanic for us in our Albuquerque shop for a short time. He knew his stuff, but just didn't show up one day and the manager couldn't get a hold of him. He came around the 4th day and said he'd been drunk for 3 days. 'Wanted to give him an award for honesty, but had to fire him.

And here's the problem, coddle your employees and they will abuse their employment every chance they get. Everyone is replaceable, I don't care who you are. We just fired a guy for abusing a company vehicle, he had multiple warnings. We track with cameras and GPS. We pay well and had a new, younger and better qualified driver within 48 hours.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I had one kid whose grandmothers had a knack for dying...apparently all 5 of his died in a few months time....his other family members were much healthier, I guess. He was also one of my district manager's favorite people, so it wasn't until he was caught stealing several prepaid phone cards that I was allowed to fire him. He was subsequently rehired and sent to another store shortly thereafter. Not a fan of liars...regardless of the relationship.

Employees are as honest as the people they work for employers lead by example That's gonna be a great big NEGATIVE in the real world pal, especially in O&G. I do agree with employers/supervisors being engaged leading by example most of the time and showing some compassion, and how I operate. We all slip up and make bad decisions, but looking your boss in the eye and lying or stealing is not something I can forgive. You will be terminated. On a major capitol project I fired 7 guys in one day once, and suspended another. We were under pressure and my guys lied to my face and laughed about it because we were right there at the end and they were about to jump ship for another project. Get it, been there MANY times myself...... Client on my azz to get project completed....cut the fat, put my rusty tool belt back on and finished the job my damn self. Three days with zero sleep, ended up in the ER... the job got done on time though. Liars, cheaters, thieves............

Employees are as honest as the people they work for employers lead by example That’s definitely a negative ghost rider because I don’t tolerate chit with my employees… I’d fired them on the spot 2 years ago but finding someone to turn loose in a half million dollar machine is hard to come by these days. The one I was referring to with my post will be unemployed in the morning and I’m looking for another operator today. After 15k in damages last week I’m over it and I’ll simply sub contract out some work if need be since we’re over a year behind but I’m sticking to my no BS policy.

The 12+ years I worked for DHS OPR, I was probably responsible for more than a hundred employee and contractor "firings" and more than that number of pre-employment denials and most of those were for "dishonest conduct." Never regretted a one of them.

I don’t condone falsehoods.
OTOH, I can guarantee you that the CEO doesn’t give a diddley damn whether your family eats. You’re just a number and a resource like other tools. His job is the bottom line and whatever it takes to improve it. It’s all about EPS(earnings per share). If there was a management Bible, this would be in it and it is valid for Fortune 100’s to the local grocery store.
