Headed over the mountain on Friday morning to get the spouse his pronghorn buck, we hope. Had a look see in Aug and numbers def. are down. They got hit hard over there last winter on deer and antelope. We do have some private access and lots of BLM to hunt also.
He'll settled on a lesser buck this year, for the meat, but no doe. It is a wintering area so maybe since season has been open for weeks some moved in with the last storm.
Buck is getting the skull skinned out today, maybe, so we'll get a look at his teeth and pull a couple for aging. Euro mount for the skull, spouse does those himself.

I drove through there last year. Beautiful country.

Had a great morning hunt. Numbers were not as down as we thought they would be. Spouse took a decent buck, it is mature but not very long on horns. The 2 bigger bucks gave us the slip, well him anyway. They came right to the truck where I was waiting for his stalk. Views of the creek draw that is our boundary and the mountain we have hunted in the past. Second buck from the left with head down was his target, taller buck had no prongs on the right.

Going to be a cold close out to our mule deer season. Was hoping to find a bull elk too this weekend into early next week, snow may hamper that. Headed up Friday for the end of mule deer season. Thankfully the ranch house is warm and comfy, wood stove insert will be cranking out the heat. One forecast shows below zero for Sunday and Monday morning.

Opening day success. No bull elk found but a decent buck showed up that evening. Saw 14 bighorn rams, too far for a pic but they should be around rest of Fall. That is a great buck!

No deer or elk down yet. Cold front blew in Friday night and we woke up Saturday to socked in with sideways snow. Thought we might have some ice issues, maybe power outage but thankfully it turned to snow and didn't get too thick on the lines or trees. Couldn't see more than 100 yds at some times so no hunting Saturday. Watched Wyoming blow at football, but had a couple of good beers while watching. Woke this morning to clear skies and cold. Spouse is going out at noon for the afternoon hunt and I came to town to check the house. Going to get bitter cold tonight. Saw a 3 pt elk last night right at dark 150 yds from the house. Not what I'm looking for. Going back in the morning for a couple of hunts for a bull and wishing a WT buck would show up but that's looking bleak. We'll see if the spouse puts anything down before I get back up.

Thankfully we have a warm house to stay in. Built a fire and the furnace never comes on. Elk enchiladas for dinner Saturday. The honey amber ale has our Centennial hops in it, yummy !!

Wow; if that is just a decent buck there, can’t image the big ones. That is the nicest 5 X 4 muley with nasties all around that I’ve ever seen. A hardy congratulations. Impressive

I'm hoping the hubby has a big one down this morning. We don't get much for mass usually, no ag in our area. Older bucks tend to develop the extras and shorter tines.

Enchiladas look delish. Nothing like a warm fire to get in front of after a cold hunt. Really cool pics!

Well no buck down for the husband. Conditions were pretty awful for most of the weekend, either snow/cold and wind or just wind. Talked with the neighbor, he told us of a big buck hanging out near the boundary. Well we found a big 3 pt next door on some G&F land that we had been trying to get a couple of years now. Spouse was hesitant to go on the property because part is a research facility. Neighbor told us the land is now on OnX as public, WG&F land and he wad watching the buck too. We let him have at it. Spouse had a chance to go in looking for the big buck but wanted to wait til evening and get eyes on him, whatever I said, just go shoot him. Well he waited and the neighbor shot the 3 pt and the big buck watched him then left. Nowhere to be found now. Men are so stuck in their ways, lol. Yes, he got to hear told you so and that made him mad. Still saving this bottle now for the right circumstance to open. Trapping starts about Thanksgiving.

Watching football while the spouse went WT hunting. He's supposed to be back 45 minutes ago, trying not to get my hopes up. WT for the freezer would be nice. Public land hunt and hasn't even seen any deer on the hoof yet, very little sign too. New areas every time out just trying to find some sign.

Hope's dashed, he's home empty handed. Guess we'll have to go downtown for the noon Wyoming football game and do a little day drinkin'.
