Anyone have a Boykin Spaniel that could field a couple questions in a PM?

I've hunted with them several times while running pointing dogs. They are great little dogs. Very smart. I think our next inside dog will be a Boykin.

There's a group of Boykin enthusiasts in Houston. I met them on a hunt. Great dogs, nice people. They have a facebook group, Boykin Spaniel Club of Texas.

How do the Boykins handle Texas heat, stickers and cactus? Keep their hair cut short?

My two New England trained Boykins hated stickers in their paws. But they were easy keepers and great in the house & the field. Natural close hunters. And too small to tip a canoe.

I'm picking up a new one in a couple of weeks. This will be my second and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

I think they do pretty well if you keep them shaved. I keep mine shaved during the summer. If its warm out I do keep her sprayed down with cool water or have her retrieve out of a pond to keep her cool.
