I burn through laptops in about 18 months. Latest one was $1600 and no longer works. I save my real estate files to email so I can always access them, but man what a beating it is to be without a computer for a few days while Best Buy orders one and then attempts to transfer files from the old one onto the new one. And we leave for vacation tomorrow so I’ll be using the hotel computer

I do a backup on an external solid state drive about every quarter. I’ve been through far too many crashes and data losses to not do so. Makes it real easy to transfer files! But yea laptops and a lot of electronics are just disposable. Been fortunate with the current laptop, but also when it was 8 months old it needed a ton of work for whatever reason. Stupid technology.

I'd use my phone before I would use a hotel computer.

why not store your files on onedrive or google drive?

My wife just got a new real estate laptop, her last one was from 2016 and she dropped it out of the case and kilt it.

I keep my desktop data regularly and automatically moved to a SSD sat drive. And I’m presently moving all the photos from the iPad to another SSD storage. I had a situation some years ago when my desktop hard drive began dying and I could not get all the data transferred to a Sat drive. Thank goodness the geek Squad recovered all my data, but that scared me.

This and how the hell are you so hard on laptops?

I don’t understand how you go through a computer so quickly. Are you buying $400 netbooks? Get a Lenovo SSD or something. They’re always on sale, like 20-50% off, and I’ve had no complaints out of mine in two years. Still going strong. It was like $1,000 with the discount and they do them all the time.

Have had the same Dell work laptop for 6 years. Never an issue. Uhoh

With laptops you get exactly what you pay for.

Very happy with my Max Book Pro. It wasn’t cheap though and if you’re an Apple hater then it’s of no use to you.

I gave Mojo72 a shot on here and bought one of his HP laptops. So far so good. Price was less than half.
This is a better computer that my company pays $3k for via our third party IT thiefs.

I used an external hard drive in my home office, always had duplicate files. No problems.

Never had a laptop die except for batteries.

If your company is paying 3K per laptop they’re stupid.

Good time for a dumb buzz question. To "back up your files", do you just insert a thumb drive and follow the prompts? Will it save all your photos?

I used his recommendation for the last 2. Operation wise they are great, durability is a different story.
