Yea, this was a huge swing and a miss. I was ready to get in line but not even considering it now. Avg approach angle, poor departure angle, poor ground clearance. Yes all of those things can be remedied with an aftermarket suspension. No front locker…….. how do you strip this thing down and market it as an affordable true off-road vehicle and not have a front locker. I don’t mind the smaller size, makes it more maneuverable. But the absolute nail in the coffin is the 4 cylinder hybrid motor. I wouldn’t be surprised if the new 4 Runner is a better buy than the Cruiser. For me however, the Lexus GX is the one I am now considering. Such a let down by Toyota.

if you look at the locker button area, there is an open space, I bet it gets a front locker in future

Yep, both deal breakers for me. They should have put the twin-turbo V6 in it....not a 4 cyl hybrid.

I guess I'd have to see one in real life to comment on the appearance, but my first thought it is too blocky and I don't care for the sharp angles.

They tout it being 'retro' type styling....but I don't see it. Definitely not like the 80 series (I have one that I've been driving for the last 23 years and 343,000 trouble free miles).

Mine is triple locked (front and rear lockers and center diff/Tcase). I suppose the new model has some form of 'ATRAC' like the older 100 series Land Cruisers and LX470's. My Wife is still driving her LX470 and doesn't really want anything else.

The new one doesn't look (retro) like a 100 series either, the most classic of the designs.

IDK.....it doesn't do anything for me and I'm a die hard Land Cruiser lover.

Do it! I bought a 2013 GX and love it so far. No one expects a Lexus to be such a capable offroad rig.

I would be impressed with an exact reproduction of an FJ40.
That is a Land Cruiser.

I bought a new 1974 FJ40 when I got out of the Marine Corp. They were a tank, Traded it for a new 1978 full size Bronco.

Do you regret making the trade?

I love FJ40's but the Bronco would have been a big step up in terms of size and power and options.

No regret. I was starting a family and needed something with a little more creature comforts.
This was the first year that Ford made the full size Bronco. I kept it for 11years.

Yep. Depending on options (model) you could get a nicely appointed Bronco. The FJ40 was quite 'Spartan' by comparison.

Bronco offered choice of manual 4 speed or 3 speed (C6 Auto) as well.

Nice solid front axle (Dana 44) and the well proven Ford 9" in the rear.

351M or 400ci engines to choose from. 78'-79' Bronco's were great vehicles IMO.

My cousins wife was a saleswoman at a major Ford dealership. I ordered one and my Bronco was the first one that the dealership received. [Linked Image]
It was an automatic transmission and a 351 Cleveland V8. Unfortunately the emission controls bogged it down. My wife was afraid to pullout in traffic unless she had a huge gap in traffic. I took it to an off road shop and they equipped it with a Holly Economaster 4 barrel Carburetor, Eldebrock dual exhaust manifold and a Flowmaster exhaust system.
The difference from the original factory equipment was amazing.

Didn't know the 351C was in those ... and Flowmaster was founded in 1983.

351 Cleveland was not in them (not from the factory). A 351 M (modified) was standard with a 400 c.i. optional.

My memory must be off on the engine exhaust system but the upgrades made a huge difference in the truck’s performance.
