Two things do not exist. Small Rifle Primer pocket 7mm-08 brass. And 7mm-08 Ackley Improved brass. The way to get there is left to right. .308 Winchester SRP brass, neck it down to 7mm-08, load it with a 7mm bullet, fire it in a 7mm-08 Ackley Improved chamber. Zero the scope to the load, and go get DOPE on it. This is for my personal rifle. I am not sending out brass with the wrong head stamp.

* like The 7-08AI is just a sexy sumbuck...especially when you don't put one of them clear red tipped POS in it

For those that didn't see it, in the Rifles section. Here's how it shot on the first powder I tried. MV 2640 fps And here is how it shot on the second on the second powder I tried. The second powder was to see if it would still shoot tight, but if there would also be a change in velocity. MV 2750 fps! (17" barrel) I did what I do not normally do. I went with speed over precise shooting. But the fast load is still shooting phenomenal.

You often work up loads at 200 yards-Is that what that was? I guess it is, after doing the math, but just to clarify.

Yessir, 200 yards or greater. Depending on the project.
A "bad load" can look good at 100 yards

Are you fireforming first or do you start load development with virgin 308 small pocket brass?

And you are using SPP brass for enhanced accuracy? Agree that 7-08 Ackley is a mighty handsome cartridge.

I do not pretend to know his reasoning but small primer pockets tend to extend brass life before primer pockets get loose.
Also primers are a commodity right now. I’ve gave away srp while running low on LRP. It would be nice to have a balance.
Anyway, this would be my reasons.

I see a 7mm-08 AI in my near future.
Why do you want a small primer? I have seen match brass that comes with small rifle primer pockets but I've never understood why.

Load development on necked down 308 brass. That's what those groups are from.

And you are using SPP brass for enhanced accuracy? Agree that 7-08 Ackley is a mighty handsome cartridge. SRP brass lasts many firings. In fact Peterson loaded this brass to SAAMI max .308 powder charge, and a technician tried to take the brass to failure on reloads. After 38 firings, the primer pockets had only expanded .001" and were still holding primers. He had to move to another project. SRP primers have been available the last two years. Nothing else has. CCI-450 are strong enough to light the amount of powder in these cases, and have been touted at low ES. These loads have single digit ES.

You can buy SRP 7mm SAW brass, might be just a re-size and go.

Looks like this is already a resize and go? Except the forming? That's it. The only die I own that is a neck only sizing die is 7mm-08. It is an RCBS die. Lube the neck of the .308 brass, run it through the neck die, and you get 7mm-08 brass with no donut.

Peterson makes some for the .260

Maybe.
You'd just have to test it to find out.

Peterson makes some for the .260 Those might work, I would expect CCI 41, 450 and Remington 7 1/2 , Federal 205M I would expect all those to work. CCI 400, WSR might or might not be good depending on the powder used. One to stay away from for sure Remington 6 1/2 as it was designed for the 22 Hornet.

I am in awe! And who would have thought that the 7-08 Ackley case design applied to the 307 Win brass for a semi-rimmed cartridge results in a: 7mm JDJ #2 aka 7mm Super Bower or 7x307 AIhttp://www.retro.co.za/gundex/articles/Ultimate%20(Thompson%20Contender)%20pistol%20accuracy.pdf my latest project:

What's the Velocity difference between 7mmAI and 7mm SAW ? With a 150 /160 pill ?

What's the Velocity difference between 7mmAI and 7mm SAW ? With a 150 /160 pill ? I would not expect much difference unless you are running higher pressures in one over the other. Think the AI will have a little more case capacity so in theory at the same pressures a little more velocity.
