Yes, we got 2 inches here. A real downpour. The wife’s garden was happy. The rapid growth of pasture grass has me a bit less happy. I am not shredding the whole place for the Brits. I’m tired. And I know the wife is tired. The Michiganders are here till Wednesday, the Brits and other mob (12 people) show up Saturday, and the wife’s nephew shows up on Monday for a 2 day visit. That’s an almost constant load. This requires me to be smiley and cheerful for what seems forever. I will be glad to see tail lights when all this is over, and we have the place back to ourselves.

And I need to load up a few hundred rounds of 223 and a hundred of 6.5 Grendel on Thursday or Friday, while I hide from the wife and her honeydo list and whatever is on it.

Bottom line, this is just life, and it ain’t so bad, and I’d rather have visitors than no visitors. Busy is better than lonely. I am looking forward to showing the Brits how to shoot. Meanwhile I’ll continue to bitch, but will have some fun too.

The Michiganders are fun and easy to hang around with. The hubby is a gun guy and had fun with my AR yesterday. The guy can shoot. Big deer hunter and wants me to hunt with him in Michigan this next season. We’ll see…

McClanahan is sort of a favorite wide spot in the road. The name is too big for the place. I’ll be going past there today. I’ve often wondered who lived there. There’s one place that looks very interesting, so that must be where the party was.

Sounds like a great time, especially introducing them to shooting. When I worked at Nokia, I had many international visitors and, on occasion, would take them to the range to shoot pistols. Something they will always remember.

Break out a .338 Win Mag and let the first one half moon himself with the scope, they'll all be done after that and you'll have something to laugh about.

Folks from outside the US are fascinated by guns though. I have a bunch of folks from Europe and Asia that work for me and when they come over, they love to go to the range. We do that as team building but I let the company foot the bill. They walk through Bass Pro Shops and are in disbelief of the gun counter. They'll go there every night they're here and just stare in amazement.

I have not read all the responses, but a few.

Put aside the "joke responses," let's be serious.

1. The problem in the family is the women making "dangerous" decisions for you and your property/household.

2. Do you want to be responsible for people coming over and "shooting your weapons" because they want a Texas day?

3. Do you want to be responsible for people coming over to go "4-wheeling" on your property, and I'd guess using your equipment?

4. Tell them you are renting "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," getting some Dickey's BBQ and they can roll in the yard if they want.

"Be smart"!

Best of luck. Clearly, you HAVE to do a followup post to let us know what happens.

Someones sounds like like a whole lotta fun. In addition and geez . . . , if you don't invite drama into your life, you won't have as much.

Everything will be done with safety in mind. Nobody gets to handle any type of gun unless I hand it to them, along with instructions. 4Wheeler riding will only be allowed after instruction, cautions, and slow riding in the yard under my critical eye. I worry about visitors and if anything, I overdo the safety.

Haven’t heard from the daughter. Maybe after being told to bring the food necessary, the beverages, and ammo, she could be backing off. Either way is fine with me. I would like to meet the Brits though, if only to check the teeth.

Wow, I think you are the one with a problem.

Have fun and I hope they enjoy and appreciate your hospitality 603.

Did you cats who think the respondents like me, who show concern, are a bunch of heartless curmudgeons?

Did you not read the initial post?

603 showed real concern.

I was just chiming in like everyone else, "being supportive and thinking safety."

Next question?

This is about the only think I could tell m\ them, or post big stickers with the prices per box of ammo with a "pay here" box for money.

I bought a couple hundred rounds of 5.56 at Cabelas, and I’ll do some reloading on Thursday or Friday. That should be enough. The SIL that was asked to bring 50 rounds of 38 or 357 totally missed the hint and will bring 9mil and a pistol or two. I don’t want them shooting pistols, but want them shooting revolvers. I think it’s safer for folks that have no knowledge of firearms. Clueless, I tell ya, and he’s a guy that I don’t trust with a firearm. I can’t let him get involved with this. I might hurt his feelings. You know guys like this. They know very little, but don’t know that they don’t know. He’d borderline dangerous.

Now the daughter wants me to make the Brits some wooden cooking spatulas to take home. Geez. I’ll drag out the wood lathe that I just put away.

Nobody has asked me to put up a zip line yet.

I may have need of Ol Thumper. grin

I’ll try to post an after action report and some pictures.

603, your sure are bending over backwards for some folks you’ve never met, and probably never see again.

Didn't read through the whole thread but I would suggest lots of .22, rifle and handgun.
Tell the daughter and her husband to go buy some ammo.
If you dont have one, go buy a skeet thrower. We had one similar to this at our ranch:

https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/do-all-traps-backyard-3-4-single-trap-clay-target-thrower?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&ds_e=GOOGLE&ds_c=BPS%7CShopping%7CSmart%7CCatchAll%7CGeneral%7CNAud%7CNVol%7CNMT&gclid=CjwKCAjwsvujBhAXEiwA_UXnAIhQh4B9UwXtHkb5z9bcxhfl97MYawC1iqHriptj-lwVjTgdNRZIGhoCyZUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds ,

If someone wants to shoot, they have to take a turn throwing. For someone that has never shot, or rarely gets to do it, busting a clay is a big thrill.
Take occasional breaks and have them walk down range and pick up any clays that were missed and didn't break.

Used to have groups at the Ranch from 4 - 12 people. Taught lots of people howe to shoot. Be safe and have fun.

Just mentioning your SIL reminds me of the numbers of times I've looked down a handgun muzzle, regardless of how safe plans were. I've been a swamper a time or two for the toughest of tough CHL instructors, and still got to look down a muzzle. Like you say, people don't know what they don't know. The idiots would have a live round in the chamber, ready to fire, and wave it around like its a toy.

I bet if you stuck with long guns they would still have fun, have memories and stories to take home, etc. At least with long guns, one at a time, you can have much better control on where it is pointed. They would get to go home and say they got to shoot one of those evil black assault rifles. grin

He posted this to get attention here because he's bored. I too believe he will enjoy the company and chance to introduce firearms to the Brits.

603, ever heard the saying "Texas friendly spoken here"? Be nice to them, enjoy being the range officer, and smoke a couple briskets. Clearly you have nothing better to do. Most of all, be a Texas gentleman and make your daughter proud. It aint about you.

If he has "nothing better to do" then he is living the dream. From what I know about 603, he is truly living the dream.
