But I'm thinking about making another upper with a 16" or 18" barrel for longer range shooting/hunting. So I am on a quest to find a bullet in the 115 to 125 gr range with a relatively high BC (I know, none of these bullets have high BC). I have loaded some 125 gr SSTs but the tapered section of this bullet is too long and the bottom of the cone ends up barely inside the mouth of the case. If I don't seet the bullets as deep (where it should be) the COAL is too long to fit into my PMags.

I have not seen any data with Nosler's BT or Accubond 125 gr bullets. Do these bullets work or are they also too long? Or is the cone section of these bullets also too long?

Thanks!!!

Basically, what I was trying to say is that the ogive of the Hornady 125 gr SST is too long. Have you tried loading the Nosler 125 gr Ballistic Tip and is it's ogive shorter than the SST?

Also, I have been using Hodgdon's CFEBLK powder. Have you found better performance (higher velocities) with 110 gr bullets our of the 11.3" barrel if you use the slightly faster burning powders like the SOCOM or the A1680? I have studdied your load data document but the velocities listed are for 16.25" barrels. I'm curious what works best with the lighter bullets in the shorter barrel.

If you buzz the polymer tips off the AB, BT and SST all will work fine. The only powders I use for HAM'R loads are A1680, CFE BLK and SOCOM. If you load specifically for a bolt gun you can use H110, W296, 11FS, LilGun, etc.. for light bullet loads, but they won't function an AR.

Thank you for the response! Do you happen to have any data on which powder of the three (A1680, CFE BLK and SOCOM) produces the greatest velocities using 110 gr bullets out of a short 11.3" barrel?

SOCOM should since it's the fastest burn rate of the 3

We have several thousand new unprimed Starline mfg brass 300 HAM'R cases that have a small dent in the shoulder, otherwise they are 100%. Starline sold these to us at a discount so I can offer these to THF members at a really good price. They are packed in 500 qty, regular price is $157. ($ .314ea), the special price on these "seconds" is $125. per 500 ($ .25ea)

They won't be listed on the website but the order # is TR-300HAMRCASE-500S and they will be available for sale tomorrow (Apr 25th) for call in orders.

This is a limited time/qty offer, when they are all gone it's over.

'got 'em on the way.
Plus, I ordered a bullet seat gauge to see if various bullets on hand will help make the cases "once fired".

Thank you,
Larry

Stalked a 221 lb boar at one of my barrels the other night and shot him with the HAMR and a 125 TNT. First shot killed him, he just didn't know it until I hit him again and put him on the ground. Pigs are funny that way sometimes. He was pouring blood out his nose/mouth from the initial shot. I doubt he would have run much further even without the insurance shot. But that CNS hit to the base of the tail sure looked cool when it made him flip.

Same barrel a week later. 216 lb boar this time. A little leaner, more muscular pig with better cutters, just not as big. And also not as dominant. Pretty sure the one I killed last week was the boss. I say that because I stalked up on this one and was standing there at 60 yards taking video. He had no clue I was there. I was about to shoot him when he heard something in the shelterbelt in front of him and bailed out of there like he was on fire. I'm thinking he must have thought it was that bigger pig coming back to whip his butt and take the barrel back over. Anyways I had to adapt and put a 125 TNT through his noggin on the run. There are more pics in the video.

Bill,

A while back, March 3, you mentioned that a production run of .30 CALIBER, 125GR, SIERRA PRO-HUNTER #2120 bullets was about to occur. I have noticed that other component sellers have started listing these bullets for sale. I have an outstanding backorder, #1655066, for 10 boxes. Do you have any idea when this order will be filled and shipped?

I would be interested in the price of these as I have some on backorder also and the current "out of stock" price on the website is a bit lower than what other vendors are selling them for now.

What is the world record distance shot on a coyote at night with thermal and a 300 HAM'R? I may be a contender! laugh laugh laugh

We were out protecting a fresh planted peanut field from pigs the other night and there were several coyotes out there. Shot one about 200 yards, but then there were 2 more out 500 plus (you can watch the rangefinder in the video) that would not come closer after I shot that first one. My partner who loves shooting long range wanted to try them. He was shooting a 6.5 Grendel with 87 grain Sierra I think. I told him I was throwing a brick and there was no way, but he insisted we try. He though he could hit his on the right. So I made a WAG on elevation and we did a count down shot and went for it. I hit mine, he missed, LMAO!

125 TNT is what I am shooting, Been pretty impressed with it on both coyotes and pigs so far, no complaints. I had been concerned it might not be the best for coyotes but the ones I have shot so far it has dropped them hard.

They should be showing in stock in a couple of days, unfortunately the price had to go up due to a substantial price increase from Sierra.

Bad A-- shot! I killed two coyotes on our Briscoe County place a few weeks ago, saw plenty more. They seem pretty thick.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Hey Bill,

With all the craziness that is going on with the pistol brace issue, have you considered doing a 14.5" 300 ham'r barrel?

Thanks

It may be a week or so before you hear from Mr. Wilson. I think he is on a gopher hunting trip.
I just hope he has a good recipe!

I asked about a 14.5" barrel a couple years ago. At that time his answer was no, they were too busy making other high demand lengths to swap over. But it may have changed since then. I know they have added quite a bit of manufacturing capacity since the time frame I asked about it. I think it would be a great length for the HAM'R.

Wasn't the big boar we're looking for, but figured this was still a first for the Hamr.

I did a bunch of comparison testing of 300 HAM'R bullets under identical conditions today.

All loads were full charge and near max velocity for the specific bullet
All were shot at 100yds from a 16.2" barrel into my 48" deep water tank

The only surprises to me were:
How well the 135gr Bonded, 150gr BLK Gold Dot and especially the 150gr BTSP expanded
That the 135gr Bonded expanded more than the 135gr FTX
That the 150gr SS came apart
ALL bullets including the bases of the 110gr penetrated 36"+

Not surprising was that both the 110gr V-MAX and SP blew up like a grenade and all the Lehigh bullets performed as designed.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot whitetail deer size game with any of these loads!

Thanks for taking the time and sharing Bill. I’ve used the standard 130 hot core since I started down the Hamr path. Looking at that though, I’d like to try the Vmax.

Thank you for the testing and pics Bill. I've been shooting the 150gr btsp at steel, paper and hogs with excellent results. Been thinking about trying the FTX but your 135gr bonded looks worth trying first. The 150gr GD looks very interesting but is hard to find for sale.

Interesting to see how the BTSP performed. A max loaded 150 BTSP is what took the bear above. Turned the chest cavity into a soup bowl. Piled up after a 30 yard run.
