I’m still torn but since rattle snakes in general are kind of unheard of around here, I’m leaning towards common water snake. A head shot would be the tell all

Incorrect. It is a timber rattlesnake. I've handled several large ones. Look a the end of the tail...black! Bands look nothing like a water snake.
Bingo! The chevrons and black tail give it away. Saw a big one like that dead on the road up in Sherman in front of my sisters place a few years back.
