Drinking water is not about losing weight...Yes, it can help you feel more full, but it's really about how your body's systems function. Plus, being well hydrated helps your stool be a bit softer and you don't have to strain as much, if at all, when you have a bowel movement. Also, fat is excreted through breathing primarily, and then body fluids like sweat, urine, tears, etc. I don't drink water because I want to finish evicting my weight, it's because I need it...but I get a lot of mine from the foods I eat. Plain water is gross.

Red, Ive never heard of drinking water only when thirsty as being healthy. But Im no expert at all, just always heard to drink a lot.

How much water you drink per day for weight loss is meaningless

Thanks, Red, interesting. Ill try to remember to run it by my doctor, trainer and everyone else thats told me to drink water. Of course, Im not trying to lose weight, so theres that.....

I walk alot and spend alot of time outside, I just drink when I am thirsty. I don't try to drink so many xxx number of cups per day, I find that silly.

You get alot of water from the food you eat as well

OP was about diet and loosing weight

Fluid intake and hydration are different for everyone. It's individual based on metabolism, activity levels, and body weight. There is a simple calculation based on body weight to get you in the ballpark. Unless you eat watermelon 6X/day you it's a myth that you get what you need to be hydrated from the food you ingest daily.

Spent whole day walking down @ sabine.
Later biking, got a paddle boat, for legs.
Staying @ the high 180's-200lb mark.
