Hey Folks,
Is anyone in DFW actively training for upland? I know it's getting warmer and things will be slowing down but I'm putting my feelers out in general. I just took my 14yo GSP Pete over the rainbow bridge a couple of weeks ago. I'm searching for my next pup and part of the process is making sure I have training resources lined up. 14 years ago I had access to land close to my house and a guy to buy birds from. Now all that land is houses and the guy does not raise quail. The Lone Star Chapter of the German Shorthaired Pointer club does not look very active. I used to be a member there and they had a place to train and access to birds but not sure that's an option. I have attempted to contact someone I remember to see if the club is still active. I would want to stick with folks that train toward AKC Hunt Tests or Walking Field Trials. I won't be doing any horseback. I might ask to join or train a GSP with the Weim or Brit AKC club as I'm not sure I want to go down a NSTRA or NAVHDA path.
I don't need any help finding a pup, unless you know of a breeding that has Odyssey on top and bottom. Mostly interested in sire's Karl(where my Pete was from), Fritz, Charlie or
Thanks for any info that you feel might help me
Jon Patton
I would agree with you, but then I would be wrong too.

I am in lake highlands. I'm picking up my drahthaar next month and will be training a lot over the next two years. I have a couple pudelpointer and DK contacts as well. I know of some DK, DD, and pudel pointer pups coming up quickly if you are interested.
Most of these breeds are more versatile and are either German Testing or NAVHDA focused.

How far is Walter (poetry shooting club) from you?
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I am in Dripping Springs/SW Austin area and looking up all the NAVDHA, NSTRA, quail forever, etc.... chapters to find training days and maybe some testing/field trialing. Does anyone have any good insight into which groups are thriving in the Central Texas area? Looking for more opportunities to work my dog besides day trips to public land - feeling bad I cant go as much as I would want for my young dog. One of these groups may be a good route for us to take.
