My lab was priceless to me as far as what I would have spent on vet bills. Legally, the Texas Supreme Court has ruled that pets are not worth any sentimental value and are just worth the going price of that type of animal. That's why pit bulls are worth zero if someone blasts it's head off.

I guess I identify as a binary pet lover. I never liked cats growing up but I have a barn cat now that I like a lot. Have always had dogs, both working and just pets. I don't think I'll ever be without one.

Have you ever heard someone say "man that's a great dog, he acts just like a cat". Never.

Now that I think about it my cat's life so far has been worth the life of about 270 coyotes over the past 15 years. I loved that guy with all my heart and was devastated when he got killed. Haven't owned a cat since. He was about 25 lb or just under and was born without a tail. He was also a ladies man and loved it when I brought big breasted women around because he would sleep on their chest with his head stuffed between them.

I told my wife that $10,000 buys any dog we have, provided it's a good home. I'd probably pay $100-200 to get one back, depending on how put-out the rescuer was (had to chase down in traffic in the rain? $200. It showed up on your doorstep and you let it in? $50).

Mine dug out during new years 2 years ago. I put up signed, no reward. Before I finished putting up signs ran into a new neighbor that found her. She is 15 years old and while healthy has to be on borrowed time. Don’t think I would ever offer a reward.

Got a found dog story. A neighbor of one of my clients had a bullmastiff American Bulldog mix that was brindle colored and he was a really big boy. I would always scratch his head over the fence and give him treats when I showed up to clean the neighbor's pool. One day he just wasn't there anymore. About 6 or 7 weeks later I'm driving off from my shop and I see a dog running full speed after my truck, it was Buddy and he recognized the sound of my truck and came after me. I took him back to his house kind of late in the evening a day or two before Christmas or New Years and knocked on the door. The people were suspicious at first and it took me a moment for me to explain that I had their dog in my truck. Didn't get a reward and wasn't expecting one. To give you an idea of how far he made it away from his house he lived over in Bluffview which is Midway and Northwest highway. I found him near my shop near the corner of 35 and 635 weeks after he had gone missing.

With the idea of thread being reward, what would you give? Everything? Priceless is a lot.

For most pets the amount someone is willing to pay for a reward is related to how well off they are. $2000 hurts a lot more to some versus others…

Some pets though are actually valuable.

At one point my black lab was probably worth $30k+. I could have actually sold her for that.

When she was younger and still intact. I had one litter of 12 puppies and sold them for $2500 a piece.

So when she was about 2 years old I could justify a very hefty reward for her return had she gone missing.

Mine's worth to me about what it would cost to replace her.....probably about $2500-3000. My kids would say a million dollars, Lol.

Yep - have to think about how much time, effort, and expense would have to go into replacing one of my hunting dogs and come up with a number that way.

The Pudelpointer cost $2k plus a trip to northern Colorado. The misc vet bills over 4 years are another $2k. The question is, do I have a very used dog or a $4k dog?

In my opinion cats are usually worth more than thier owners. Why on earth do so many cat owners feel its OK to let their precious kitty wonder the neighborhood shatting in peoples flower beds and gardens, stalking peoples bird feeders, climbing all over peoples cars, having thier kittens under peoples decks, sleeping and pizzing in peoples boats......I could go on and on? And then they wonder what happend to the little kitty when it comes up missing!

We had a white fluffy one around here probably 10 years ago that was trap shy. None of the neighbors could catch it in one of those live traps. Then one morning I found it shredded to pieces along the creek. Me and the Yotes became best friends after that. I even left them some old ground up venison for desert the next night.

I paid a $1000 vet bill this week for my dog this week, then I told told the dog that she'd just hit her lifetime max for vet bills.

In all fairness I am pretty attached to this guy, but I don't know what I would pay to get him back.

I found him when he was 5 weeks old, somebody dumped him on a location west of Andrews Tx.He weighed 3.3 lbs
