Thinking of getting a peacock for around the house.
Any cons?
Should I get young one or full grown(2+ yo)?

Luckily I have the ability to tune out most sounds other people find annoying and am tone deaf to high pitch sounds laugh
Honestly though the main reason was the call they make and they are beautiful. Thought it'd be cool....neighbors probably not too much.

The people next door to us used to have 2. They'd fly up on the roof of their house and Cackle..or Crow.. or whatever they do.all day and all hours of the night.
I'd rather have Guineas.

I was told if they weren’t born there, they will run off if not kept penned up.
Personally I couldn’t handle the racket.

I wonder how much of that it would take to figure out how they taste.

Growing up a neighbor up the street had quite a few of the peacocks and the peahens
The hens would Screech at all hours and the Screech sounded exactly like a woman screaming for help at the top of her lungs.

Some people that live up the creek from us have them. Thank God that they're far enough away that it's not a problem......for us.

A friend bought 3 turned them loose still there. He bought 2 more a couple of weeks ago was gonna keep them penned up for a while but the other peacocks wouldn’t leave them so he turned them loose after 2 days. They are still there.

We had 2 at the cabin on a deer lease we were on. They were pretty birds and they did make a lot of noise. I thought they were a pretty cool addition to our cabin area at the time. But one time we got there, and no peacocks were there. Don't know where they went. They were pretty cool birds at the time. It's unusual and it added to the flare to our deer lease.

Buddy has one running with the wild turkeys on his place. We'll see it 3 or 4 times a year. Totally feral.

Still undecided.... i can always make it disappear if it becomes too much. I heard they are good table fare.

I'd get a Pea hen - women stay more focused on their watch.

They are dang good for snakes, any snakes. Once they have been on the place for a awhile they can tell what goes on and good watch dogs. Guineas will get scared at anything and sound off, and they will clean up on all bugs. My Grandparents had a egg farm and had a bunch kept the place well under control. 2cents

had a friend in old part of Austin that had a couple of neighborhood pencock & peahen, the neighbors all liked them and also added to the keep Austin weird popularity. There was a doctor in my home town that had a few, could hear them several block away when they got to calling. pretty cool to look at as well

There’s literally a herd of them here in Flower Mound near the high school. The lots on the one street are 1 acre and beyond. They migrate from one property to another. A good friend lives on that street. Yes they are loud. Yes they crap everywhere. And don’t forget, they will lay eggs and reproduce. Cool factor is over quickly based on his comments. And now it’s too late to get rid of them.

Like everything there’s pros and cons.

I have some. Seems the squawking is worse during breeding season (Spring). I penned the first pair to get them to stay around. Now they all run loose. Seems the females get ate during egg sitting out in the country. If there are other peacocks in hearing distance, they may leave looking for love in the Spring. I'd get a pair.
