Important Changes to Know!
Enhancements Provide More Hunt Choices; Better Elk, Pronghorn Odds for 20+ Points
Two important changes to the program are being implemented this year, including the option to purchase additional hunt choice selections and better odds for certain elk and antelope hunt applicants:

Extra Hunt Choices for Everyone
After applicants have reached the maximum number of hunt choices allowed in a category (up to 14 hunt choices across four categories for $5 application fee), applicants will then be allowed to buy additional hunt choices at $3 per choice. There is no limit to how many extra hunt choices can be purchased, but applicants can only select a specific hunt once. Also, applicants will be able to add PointGuard insurance to each category, a safeguard against losing preference points in case the hunter cannot attend any of the hunts he wins.

Elk/Pronghorn Allocated Draws
For these once-in-a-lifetime hunt categories, an initial drawing for half of all hunt permits will be taken from the pool of only those applicants having 20 or more preference points. The remaining half of all hunt permits will be drawn from the pool of everyone who applied (excluding hunt winners from the initial drawing).

Well, considering I have 13 points before this year's draw and 50% of permits now going to 20+ point holders, I'm not sure if I should welcome this knowing if I apply diligently for the next 7 years I will at least have some great odds of drawing that Elk or Pronghorn hunt before I die. Or be upset my 13 points are now diluted for the next 7 years for a hunt that seemed impossible to draw to begin with. Mad at myself now for missing the draw some years because I either could not have made the hunt that particular year or simply forgot. Otherwise I would have had over 20 points by now.

Didn't even know about the ok points for elk and pronghorn. Trying to keep up with the other states is becoming a daily task. I went and missed the Colorado draw last week. No biggie since I'm in no man's land point wise. May put in for ok next year just for grins. When's the draw deadline?

In Oklahoma as a NR you have to have a valid General NR hunting license to apply. Just FYI

for elk draw it is all public, but they do have OTC tags for private. Pronghorn is a little tricky, as there is some public and walk/in “OLAP access” but most is private. Gaining permission isnt to hard though

Unless your a resident, already buy a non resident license every year anyway, or already have several points, that is going to be a tough $180 yearly lottery ticket with 50% of the 80 total either sex permits now out of reach until you have 20 years in the draw. That cost will increase over time and if like the trend with other states, I suspect they will eventually limit non resident permit numbers. I will be 67 when I hit that 20 point mark and a 50% permit pool that is still no guarantee I will ever draw. But there is hope. I did eventually draw the powderhorn at 27 points after I had expected to die with those points before they changed the rules here bringing that to almost 20,000 points.

they tried to do NR allocation this year but it got voted down. I think eventually every state will have a NR allocation max

Personally, I think Oklahoma is a great buffer between Texas and any invasion from Kansas. That, and the fact I may hunt ducks and deer up there a couple times a year is all I'm gonna give 'em, I've decided. Too many other places to go that have better mountains.
