I've seen axis bucks advertised for sale on other platforms, and they usually say "1.0" or "1.4" or something similar.... 1.x. What does the 1.0, 1.4 mean?

Never heard that one. Usually a quick measurement is 30" and above is a good one, 32" is big, etc.

those are live sale numbers. first digit is number of males and second is number of females (or maybe it's the other way  ) Thus 1.0 is one male, no females being offered for sale. 1.4 would be one male, four females etc

Correct, its Males, Females, and then babies.
So you may just see .1 (Which is one female)
or
1.4.2 - one male, four females, and 2 un-sexed babies
