Does anyone know of a place that sells a good yard leveling mix or a place that will order it in the big totes in northern Dallas? Mason sand. No mix. Early in the season so it can recuperate (depending on how much is used), but not too early. The grass needs to be growing vigorously. I apply a heavy dose of Urea before leveling. I guess I’ll have to give it a shot again since I can’t find what I’m looking for. The last time I tried straight sand it washed away but I’ll pray for no down pours this time, as I type this it’s pouring outside so maybe that’s a bad sign who knows.

Is this area pretty flat or sloped? If sloped you need to take a slower approach and do it over a few applications, probably over a couple seasons. Like Mickey mentioned. Make sure your growth is banging. Apply some N prior to. Pick a week where the 10 day forecast doesn't show a washout. Water it in well after you do it. Not to runoff but to get it settled down from the canopy. If things look good I plan on doing my backyard Memorial Day weekend.

It’s sloped but nothing major, sand just doesn’t like to stay in place on anything other than perfectly flat ground. I’ll get this figured out though!!

I scalped mine and it’s been at or below freezing every night since that day with very little greening yet.

Mowers scalped my yard last week, my lawncare puts out treatment like 8 times per year.
So far everything is looking good.

Ol Thumper, don't be afraid to scalp well beyond Spring - mild (some refer to this as "height-of-cut reset") to wild. I've gone full scalp well into Summer. I always called it a turf height adjustment. Scalped and vacuumed mine two weeks ago...two weeks after pre-emergent. I have a 1/4 acre city lot with a small-ish house and my yard "gave" me half a truck bed load of clippings. Grass is still 80% dormant but I can tell it's happy.
Pass the gravy.

It was multi-pels apf @27$ each. Broke my decade old hand spreader during the first bag. Went to TSC and saw this: Kind of surprised it worked as well as it did. Now to see how long it holds up.

Scalped mine 11 days ago and it's still mostly brown...should I be concerned?

No. It will wake up when it wants to. A lot of lawns in my hood are still completely dormant.
