That's not how it works. TPWD leases from the refuge the hunting opportunity for those dates. TPWD is not managing the wildlife in this case. They are only leasing the hunting to provide a hunting opportunity. TPWD does the draw, but the hunt is run by the refuge. TPWD would have no control of what activities are scheduled on a federal refuge outside of the dates they lease. Nor would they have control of how a federal refuge is managed. Though this one being a tick disease issue, I would not be surprised if multiple agencies are involved in mitigating the tick resurgence.

TPWD is in the business of making money and miss managing. The draw hunts are hunts that you have to spend a butt ton of money over a long time to get chosen to hunt one, maybe they should close these parks for a year or two from vacation spots and do nothing but cull hunts that you can show up for, pay your fee, and hunt? Seems like doing a mass culling from a contract company defeats the purpose of having a drawing if the animals are already on the jump from that.

animals belong to us not Texas. TPW needs to find a way to let hunters kill these surplus animals. No question.

When dealing with the government or the state they could always do a better job but why bother when you're a deadwood employe. There not concerned about controlling the Nilgai population using the taxpayers hunters, they would rather use our tax dollar to do it the easy way.

It is not about what you kill, it is about the hunt....
