Going on a hunt later this week on a private ranch...

What kind of feed do you all suggest throwing out to hopefully get a shot off?

I've read alfalfa and corn but just seeing if anyone has any other tips. There's corn feeders going for a short time.

Put out a regular size bale of alfalfa. Remove the strings but leave the "block" intact. Seems to work better that way for axis in our experience.

Thanks! I'll probably be picking up a couple of square bales if I can find them.

If you can keep the whitetail from getting it all first.

Theyre about the only ones eating it on my place this year.

Interested in the alfalfa. What do you do? Just put it by a water source?

How do you guys go about dispersing the Chaffhaye and the alfalfa? Sprinkle it inside a feeder pen, leave it near water, spread it on roads/senderos? My new place has axis and my sons and I are trying to get educated on how to hunt them. Any and all tips are appreciated.

I put some around the feeder and then I have hay feeders set up at some of my spots that I put it in. Basically anywhere you plan to hunt.

Axis dont like to jump into a feeder pen FYI.

If you have pens, put the bale outside of it, cut the strings. If they can smell it, they will come. Might have to break the bale up after a day or 2.

Thanks for the info, guys. My 15 year old REALLY wants a buck and we spent a couple days recently cruising slowly looking for them to no avail.

I would buy a few packages of Chaffhaye and put it out in 5-7 lb piles, along with some hand-thrown corn in the same area. The smell of the Chaffhaye will bring them in (it smells INCREDIBLE)....and the corn will help keep them around longer and spread them out (if there is a herd) to offer more shot opportunities. Chaffhaye isn't cheap....but it's worth the money, especially if you're limited on time and won't be using a ton of it.
